Football facts that don't sound true (but are)

  • Liverpool's loss to Brighton on Monday was their first defeat in the Premier League since December 2016 having led at half-time (a 4-3 loss at Bournemouth), ending their run of 156 games without defeat when leading at the break (W142 D14).
  • Jason Knight has played every minute of the Championship campaign this season.
Following this fellow Irishman Nathan Collins is the only outfield player to play every minute of the premier league this season.
  • And in Serbia, Red Star Belgrade have now reached 150 home games unbeaten. Their last defeat was 18 April 2017!!

If they avoid defeat in their final game next weekend, it will be EIGHT full seasons unbeaten at home.
I see they beat Mladost Lučani 3-1 at home on Saturday.
  • Yesterday was the first time that Nathan Jones has won silverware as a Manager

2017-18 he only got second place with Luton in League Two
2018-19 he left Luton for Stoke before they won League One
That's stretching the definition of "silverware", unless it is literally the cup that is the fact that doesn't sound true. He only got 4th place with Charlton.

That said, here's a picture of Jones with Silverware:-

  • If it's been mentioned before I've missed it, so I thought it would be worth posting on this thread anyway: Last week's play-off final against Orient was watched by a crowd of 76,193; the highest attendance for a League One Play-Off Final at the new Wembley. The previous record was 76,155 for Charlton v Sunderland. All together now, 'You only came to watch the Charlton...'!

Not doubting the validity of the Wembley stats, but the relative pictures do make that seem unbelievable. The Sunderland end looked much busier than the Orient end.

  • Manchester United woman have more points from their League season, despite having played 16-games less than Manchester United men's team
And from only one woman as well? Wow!

That's very unfortunate, being born with an 'a' right in the middle of your face.

  • Some of us are old enough to remember the first time someone paid a million to sign a player. Chelsea have just paid Manchester United 5 million not to sign Jadon Sancho. Seems the loan deal contained a clause requiring them to sign him permanently.

  • Slough’s a big place. There’s Reading, Aldershot, Bracknell. I’ve got Didcot, Yateley… You know…Winnersh. Taplow. Because I am my own boss, I can- Burghfield.

  • Liam Manning is Norwich's first Manager to have born in Norwich.

Ahhh didn't realise he was a Norwich lad, seemed like a weird move from him given Bristol City have been better run etc recently, but that puts it in a bit of context.

I thought before he moved there they might go for Russell Martin too as an ex-player.

Seems he started out at Norwich's Academy (when he was playing), got released and went to Ipswich, so he's got a foot in both camps despite not playing for either of them.

    Charlton away days last year
  • Ruud van Nistelrooy is still the Leicester manager.

    That’s insane.
Not if the opposition are told what the final score is going to be before the game.
