  • Let’s hope they sink into oblivion.

Depends which Alex Neil they get

he’s had good spells and poor spells.  We can but hope he’s a colossal failure there and takes them to league 1
Got promoted with three clubs, Norwich, Sunderland and Hamilton on a shoe string. Steadied the ship at Preston and had them competing. Didn’t do so well at Stoke, but what manager does do well there??

I’m happy with the appointment. The best of what was available I think.

    Lower mid table.
  • I think it’s a very safe appointment. Comfortably a mid table side but seemingly the owner hasn’t got or won’t make that extra push to really go for top six. Probably four quality players short of pushing on and the question is will Berylson decide now’s as good as time as any to go for it, or is a mid table Championship side the limit of ambition ? Nothing wrong with that. Looks to me like Harris made them a hard team to beat but scoring goals prevented consistently staying in touch with the playoffs. If Neil can turn some of those draws into wins I think top six isn’t beyond the realm of possibility. A couple of good additions might make the second half of the season very interesting for them. New manager. New window. All to play for.
  • I thought Neil Harris was a good re appointment and to me it remains a mystery as to why he left.
Alex Neil is a manager I would certainly welcome to Charlton, and by the look of it they have done well to replace Harris with Neil.
However during the Neil Harris spell they allowed us to acquire Alex Mitchell which is a good signing as far as I am concerned.

From what I’ve heard, the main reason young Berylson is holding back is FFP. Same as John before him. We’re on the cusp most seasons apparently. Can see Esse going in the transfer window to help on that front.

  • I actually went this game today ( I know but the wife is pwoper facking wall ) Oxford looked a decent side tbh , could only dream of us putting in a performance like that , against that lot , but as poor as Millwall were they won’t go down .
  • Millwall won't go down, but unlike in a few previous seasons I can't see them challenging for the playoffs either

Millwall have scored 10 goals in their last 17 matches and haven't scored more that a single goal in a game in that time. They've only conceded 11 goals in those matches but they better hope that they don't start to leak them because, as joint-lowest scorers in the division, they clearly do not have the creativity or finishers to get themselves out of trouble in a game.

Bloody hope they don't go down, we can't afford to lose six points next year if we ever want to get out of this league. The year after would be fine with me!

All depends how they’re set up. Changing tactics from overtly defensive to being more expansive can make a big difference. The example is with Charlton in the last three games. The trick is to just shift the balance without becoming as you say “leaky”. The window is open so I’d expect the new manager has ideas to tweak the system. I think they’ll be fine. They obviously know how to defend so when needs must I’m unfortunately confident they will screw enough points out to be comfortably safe.

I know mate , but the defeat did make it worthwhile.
  • I think Neill’s biggest challenge in previous jobs is that he’s gone to club’s where there’s been an expectation of promotion either due to size of club (Sunderland) or recently been in the Prem (Stoke).

I think this is similar to his appointment at Preston in terms of expectation/playing budget.

I don’t think there’s an expectation of promotion at Millwall, more an outside hope of playoffs/at all costs stay in the league.  I don’t rate him as a manager as I think he’s on his way down in his career, and this may be his last shot at a Championship job.  A lot depends on his start and how stale his football is.  I know it ended badly for him at PNE because of this, much in the same Harris parted ways with Millwall first time round, as I think he’d taken them as far as he could, I know the football was tough to watch - obvs Neill won’t have the capital and rep Harris did

As mentioned above, Millwall are a well run club with good foundations and Berylson senior did a great job, but despite this, because football is too screwed financially, they still find themselves running at a loss, just to achieve what they have done in recent years.  This is an issue I have with all the money in the game generally now.  Well/sensibly run clubs, still screwed because of the trickle down effect of the stupid wages players get.  For me, it’s criminal you’ve got players in the Championship, leagues one and two on the money they’re on.

Clubs are community assets.  The money players get paid puts all clubs at risk, yet it doesn’t seem to be stopping, which means we’re all at the whims of finding billionaire owners who fancy a dabble at trying to be successful- if not you’re screwed
  • Neil Harris was at Gillingham last night. Could he return there? Bonner is on thin ice I would imagine.
