The word hero is often used to describe footballers or rugby players or whatever.

This man was the definition of a true hero.

    Absolute hero. RIP
  • A true hero, even his escape to Scotland was heroic, let alone what he achieved by blowing up the heavy water plant in Telemark.

Rest in peace, brave Mr Ronneberg.

An interesting, and humbling, series of films about the mission, compiled and narrated by Ray Mears, was broadcast by the BBC.
(You can find them on YouTube).

The picture below is the cover of Ray's book about the mission.

What a man......a real life James Bond.
Though I’ve no doubt he wouldn’t have seen himself that way.
    RIP.....Sir......RIP.

Went to Rijken and saw the heavy water plant in Telemark last month and hammocked in the area. How those guys got in and out is beyond me. Just to give an idea The town of Rijken is in a valley that is so narrow and tall that sunlight doesn't reach the floor between october and march. The town actually has a mirror on top of the valley that reflects a 40'x40' patch of light in to the town square. Its difficult enough getting in and out without nazis defending their main source of heavy water to develop the bomb.

If they didn't pull it off we could be living in a very different world indeed. A sliding doors moment for the whole of humanity.

RIP Sir. An effort that will never be forgotten.
