The wages they are paying may bite them on the bum.
Think a lot depends on if they move to Stratford. They could comfortably sell 50,000. I know more West Ham fans that dont go to matches than do.
Would be a shame if West Ham became another Chelsea though - I am talking about the fanbase rather than on the pitch.
There are plenty of Chelsea fans who just dont bother now because of the price/tourism factor. Obviously walking down the Kings Rd is a bit more attractive than walking through Green Street Market but if West Ham did turn into another Chelsea instead of the passionate loyal lot that turn up week in week out that would be quite sad.
I was thinking exactly the same thing this morning. There are striking similarities with Leeds from a few years ago and they are throwing all their eggs into one basket in the hope that they can break into the top four. It wouldn't surprise me if they went into financial meltdown in a few years time. Their wage bill must be in the region of £60-£70m and do the Icelandics have pockets that are that deep?
I don't think it's Eggy that has the money is it? Doesn't he have backers that are worth a billion? If so then the wages won't be a problem for a few years yet. Leeds went into meltdown because they didn't have the backing.
Also as valley said their wage bill might well be 60m or so but they'll probably get about 40m back just from tv rights due to the increased deal.

Fulham have got a billionaire backer but it hasn't stopped them racking up accumulated debts of c£120m. Their bubble will burst at some stage as it will at West Ham

Exactly.
Before their takeovers Man U and Liverpool were probably the only clubs to have been closest to "self sufficiency" in the top flight.
i think its all gonna go tits up for em this season. my girlfriends dad is saying 'were living the dream' and i keep laughing at him without even knowing im doing it!!! he also said the same words when tevez and mascherano were signed and look what happened there!! they'll get fed up of curbs's 11 men behind the ball tactics soon enough!!

Puts into perspective just how badly that fine must of hit them (and they'll get that back eventually)
