I also enjoy r/cricket but there's a heavy Indian & Australian presence. English fans outnumbered on there.
You can usually find subreddits for your favourite TV as well e.g. I do like a bit of r/gameofthrones while it's on. The geeky fans help me notice things that I might've missed on first viewing.
r/personalfinance can be quite interesting with good advice r/madlads is funny r/crappydesign also for a laugh r/AMA can have interesting people and great questions
Also it's a place to seek out your own interests. As a former chef who's still into cooking, there's a lot of subreddits to get into. r/sousvide, r/breadit, r)seriouseats, etc.
/r/soccer /r/soccerstreams /r/SaddestBackflip (in reference to Hernanes' backflip against his former club, Lazio) - lots of real, non-satirical sports articles /r/FootballTactics (bit dead unfortunately)
/r/Sports /r/SportsAreFun (sportspeople having fun)
You can find myriad other sports subreddits of course.
UK and Ireland:
/r/CasualUK - avoid /r/BritishProblems; /r/UKPolitics; /r/unitedkingdom /r/ireland (amusing sub: the post about telling the cow to fuck off always gets me) /r/london
Good subs to binge the top posts from:
/r/TalesFromTechSupport /r/TalesFromYourServer /r/TalesFromRetail /r/TalesFromTheCustomer /r/Tinder /r/AskReddit (generally a good sub) /r/MaliciousCompliance /r/PettyRevenge /r/BestOf /r/DefaultGems /r/ChoosingBeggars /r/IAmVerySmart /r/PhotoshopBattles
Great quality subs:
/r/AskHistorians /r/MusicTheory
Useful:
/r/OutOfTheLoop /r/ExplainLikeImFive /r/NoStupidQuestions (my personal favourite was: "How do you communicate with blind people? Like obviously there's Braille but is there some form of clicking I can do with my tongue to simulate Braille verbally?") /r/ChangeMyView (sort by top)
Amusing or timewasting (in addition to many of those above):
/r/BlackMagicFuckery /r/DisneyVacation (out of context photos from WikiHow with reworked titles) /r/FellowKids (old people trying to be young and failing miserably) /r/BlackPeopleTwitter /r/ScottishPeopleTwitter /r/BootTooBig (serendipitous rhymes) /r/ChoosingBeggars /r/FloridaMan (great headlines) /r/NotTheOnion (news that isn't satire) /r/JustFuckMyShitUp (bad haircuts) /r/ReactionGifs /r/SweatyPalms (dangerous stuff aaahh aaah hair-raising oh phew it's okay) /r/WhereDidTheSodaGo (adverts out of context)
