ROT feels we have made encouraging progress this weekend.
ROT regulars were happy to welcome 4 new participants to their latest Sint-Truiden protest weekend. As you have probably already read, one of our major activities was to deliver 10 000 leaflets, acquainting the populace of some of Roland’s past actions in their town and of the latest issue about the non-payment of promised bonuses at Charlton - which may be of great relevance to them as his enterprises are major employers in the town and surrounding areas.
We have established that 12 people of average fitness could leaflet both the urban area and the outlying villages of the municipality in a normal 2-day weekend. The process is greatly helped by the universal practice of having letterboxes at the edge of each property, so you do not need to walk up and down driveways or garden paths – just go from house to house. In flats there is a bank of letterboxes in the entrance lobby – no need to climb stairs!
The inhabitants we actually met, who were gardening, getting in the car, dog-walking etc as we passed were happy to see us making our deliveries, and pleased to pass the time of day with us as we went by. It is a very friendly town. Well, maybe with the exception of one well-known resident {…} Leaflets left at Stayen were – predictably – removed within seconds of being delivered. We wondered if the receptionist was working towards a target in the hope of a promised bonus?
It turns out one of our deliveries was to the house of a freelance reporter, who is very interested in the leaflet about the Charlton non-bonuses, and contacted ROT while we were still in Belgium. It may well be worth while keeping an eye on the Belgian press this week!
Of course, we Addicks also found time to socialise – eating some very nice meals together and sampling the fermented products of grain and grape, while setting the world to right! Spending the day walking round delivering leaflets certainly seemed to work up a good appetite for both.
Is this a main stream Belgian newspaper and if not I presume some clever person will look into it ?
According to a google search:
Het Laatste Nieuws Newspaper
Het Laatste Nieuws is a Dutch language newspaper based in Brussels, Belgium. It was founded by Julius Hoste Sr. on 7 June 1888. It is now part of De Persgroep, and is the most popular newspaper in Flanders and Belgium. Wikipedia
Is this a main stream Belgian newspaper and if not I presume some clever person will look into it ?
I'm reliably told it is.
I'm also reliably told our owner rang said newspaper as he wasn't happy.
Oh dear. How sad. Never mind.
Indeed, I was told by the journo who wrote this piece, that Duchâtelet was on the phone to the newspaper owner this morning, to rant at him for publishing the article.

Maybe the penny has finally dropped for Roland that these "sheep" he has so frequently dismissed are more like ROTweilers, and that he is in serious risk of losing face in front of his sycophants and cronies.
Life, as they say, could be about to get interesting.
Well done to all those in every group who are doing their bit to pull the lion's tail.

Most of the article is behind a paywall but it starts...
Roland Duchâtelet: 'People earn too little in this country' Erik Raspoet and Michel Vandersmissen 28/08/18 at 16:17 - Updated at 16:17
Some ideals within Islam must be on the list of dangerous sects. Generals have no vision. And no, his adventure in the football world was not a great success. Entrepreneur Roland Duchâtelet does not shy away from making a big statement more or less. 'Teaching a heavy profession? A disgrace.'
A few days ago entrepreneur Roland Duchâtelet was once again in the British newspapers, from the tabloid The Sun to the institute The Times. It was already bumblebees at his London football club, Charlton Athletic. What turned out? The youth players will no longer receive bottled water due to savings.

And there, ladies and gentlemen, is the ROT strategy, delivering results, weeks before the election. RD will be thinking, "Do I effing need this in my backyard?". To which the answer is of course "No Roland, you don't. So you know what you must do to stop it. Get on that phone tomorrow and close the deal. Or this is going to get worse and worse for you. It's in your hands, Roland..."
This team are modern Charlton legends. They need and deserve our full support. Me, I'm already making plans to join them for the final election push on Oct. 12-13. Love a bit of election campaigning, I do, especially combined with fine beer and dining. :-)

Here is a selection of some of the contents of that article. Frankly, it beggars belief.
(Apologies that this is based on machine translation).
The article is in the form of a Q&A.
The first question is about the banning of water bottles at the training ground.
I only drink from the tap myself. Well, from now on they also get water from the tap. Thirsty they will not suffer, and they will not get worse by playing football. The club is losing too much, so it's better to pay attention to the pennies. Moreover, it is an environmentally friendly measure.
Next question was about what an entrepreneur looks for in a football club.
I've been wondering about that myself lately. (laughs) It was a mistake. The football business does not suit me. Too irrational. If you want to lose real money, buy a football club.
Before you knew it, you owned more than five football clubs at home and abroad. Typical Duchâtelet? If you start something, do you go all the way to the hole?
Maybe, but it was mainly a question of efficiency. If you control five clubs, there are synergies, for example by allowing players to circulate from one club to another. I was one of the first to introduce that model. Meanwhile, many other clubs do it too, like Manchester City. [Yes, that's right. Roland Duchatelet is now presenting his ideas as the genesis of Manchester City's success]
Question as to whether he will sell all his clubs
That's the intention, but I'm not in a hurry. Investing in football was the mistake of my life, at the same time it was an interesting sociological experiment. The parallels with politics are striking. They are two worlds where emotions win from logical thinking.
Question about protests from Liege and London
The supporters' protests do me little, because I understand that they do not really know me, do not know what really happened and continue on social media and unscrupulous newspapers looking for thrill. My conclusion is that the recipes from the business world do not catch on in football. [See that? The man who doesn't do failure, admits failure]
He goes on to ramble, at length, in barely coherent rhetoric about pensions, Muslim immigration (he's not a fan of second- and third-generation immigrants being considered "guests" rather than citizens), some unpalatable, borderline Islamophobia, Russian war capability, the sinking of the Bismark (I'm not making this up, honestly), "migrants can no longer have any economic added value", but then...
...this timely reminder of how Roland Duchatelet fully appreciates the precise feelings of people about him and his tenure:
"What [is to] stop you from increasing the wages of your 7,000 employees?"
@Chizz I just started a thread on this (Roland spouting off again) - v grateful if you could copy the above onto that one too as people need to read this crap.

Hope he doesn’t find a way to get back at the journalist ... that would be very much in line with his vindictive attitude.

"It was already bumblebees at his London football club" has to be "It was buzzing at his London football club" doesn't it??
Absolutely gutted to have not been out there helping.
