Bought a load of laminate, fitter has recommended howdens high performance underlay which is 5mm thick and includes damp proof membrane. Reading online it seems underlay for laminate should be between 1-3mm, but is this not including the membrane? Would 5mm be alright? Cheers

If you are replacing carpet, 5mm will still leave loads (maybe too much) clearance.
If you are replacing 1-3mm underlay, you may not it it under.
Thicker underlay is generally better and can have soundproofing which can be a requirement if you are laying it in a flat as sometimes the lease prohibits non-carpet flooring due to the noise.
Don't especially need it to be soundproof but quieter is of course nicer.
My main concern is whether it will be too spongy with thicker underlay and over time cause boards to come apart.
