what a time to be alive.
If I were in charge I'd round up everyone carrying a knife without a valid reason.
Then I'd put them and their knives in an enormous locked area, perhaps the size of Greenwich Park and leave them to it.
I'd give it a few weeks and hopefully the problem would all be sorted
Two kids from each postcode, live broadcast, only the winner gets out alive.

Yep, one at Forest Hill Station on Monday, school kids at leaving time.
I know there needs to be a number of structural changes in society to stop this in the long term, but I'm amazed there hasn't been any short term emergency legislation bumping up being caught with a knife to 10 years. Being caught stabbing someone with a knife but not fatally wounding them 25 years, murder, life imprisonment. Might not be that practical, but we do need something.6 -
Nowadays if you stab someone you will be told you're a naughty boy.
Kill someone and you will be told you're a very naughty boy.1 -

At the same time, my nieces/nephews and their friends are a lot more liberal than most of the people i knew and was at that age.

Similar has been played out on various debates over the years and it's one that will continue to only be discussed.5 - Sponsored links:

They seem to have got a grip on the problem in Glasgow. They treated it as a 'not just a policing issue but a public health issue':

it went beyond a national shame a long time ago. I’m all for hearing and introducing long term counter measures involving education, inclusion and money into policing. But I’m equally for what we have at our disposal to try and stop this now.
The knife epidemic is exactly the same as the shootings that go on in the U.S. I’m proud of our gun laws over here, but knives are doing just as much damage at the moment as shootings are (comparatively speaking). We needed to enact something yesterday. It can’t go on
if parties are worried about the political repercussions and how it plays out to those that are more liberally minded, I don’t see anyone rushing to condone Jacinda Arden when she banned assault rifles and tightened their gun laws. That was (among other things), great leadership.
i know assault rifles are very different, but a weapon is a weapon and a life lost is a life lost regardless of whether it’s one or several at one time
I personally wouldn’t attach any political leanings on this either way. Wouldn’t care if the legislation was put forward by Tory, UKIP or labour or the DUP. Just want some assertive short term sign something will be done9 -

Is it not part and parcel of living in this great city?0

My nephew was threatened with a knife back in August last year in Paddock Wood, apparently it has gone to court 3 times but each time it has been delayed. As a consequence my nephew quit his job in the October and rarely leaves the house. The bloke who did it, broad daylight and multiple witnesses, is still roaming the streets around his area. Absolutely pitiful state for our country to be in11

4th time been caught with a knife.
Imprisoned for 8 months and out in less than 4.
Then celebrated on stage like a hero.1 -
Nothing will change until the black community get rid of their "bro's" & "hoods" type mentality. Disgusting that a criminal straight out of jail for serving time carrying a knife is hero worshiped. Nothing to do with austerity.9

If Police stop and search Black young folk, 13 to 30, they are said to be picking on them. Yet Black on Black knife crime whether Drug or gang related have been going up and getting worse over the last 30 years.
Then Drake treats this guy like a hero.
Show graphic pictures in primary schools of the dead youngsters of knife crimes. Ask black and mixed race film, TV, and sport stars to help to spread the word and give back to deter the next generation about the evils of knife crime and the gang and postcode wars.
May already be too late to expect a seismic change in attitudes of the 13 to 30 age group but to carry on like this is crazy.
PS, I know it's not just a black problem BUT the high percentage of black on black or mixed race don't lie.
