Well "tinkers" are one sort of Irish Traveller I'm told "Nackers' are the lowest of the low not sure how you would know but I'm sure some one on CL of Irish blood might know what is the difference
Few years ago a doctor who I worked with (Consultant Oncologist) was literally run onto the hard shoulder of a slip road on the M20 near Maidstone by a white open back truck that just forced changing lanes. My friend tooted his horn and the truck stopped and two men got out. One swung a hammer at my friend luckily only catching him with a glancing blow to the cheek. (Only !!!!) They then shot off. Police were summoned and even though there were witnesses to the assault the Police showed little interest because the truck was registered to a known “tinker” They said it would be impossible to track him and even if they did the tinkers would close ranks and he would either disappear or have a multitude of alibis.
That’s why they are above the law.
The police and authorities are at fault here - they've made a decision not to enforce the law. Just because something is difficult to enforce shouldn't mean that they just give up.
Why are untaxed/uninsured vehicles left on the road?
If you allow a group to constantly break the law and they're not held to account because they're a bit intimidating then unsurprisingly their behaviour will get worse. It's effectively sticking two fingers up to the rest of the population.
Yes and no. In a perfect world where the government funded the police properly and time and resources didn’t need prioritising in order to get “best value” in terms of Prosecutions. Other than that it’s a sad fact that low level crime that is time consuming in investigating and uncertain in outcome won’t get done. Most of us would agree that burglary is a serious crime. It is yet some forces are not routinely attending. It’s really quite shocking.
Not trying to make a political point but Police Forces under this current Conservative government have been cut to the bone.
Have they been though? The police like to see themselves as a profession. Yet what other profession pays overtime? I was actually quite shocked to see the recent stats on police overtime. They say they are too busy to do any actual police work but it works out that they only do around 2 hours per head per week! That's terribly low. https://bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-44900455
I was lucky if I didn't have to do two hours a day - unpaid.
It suits both the federation and the chief constables to blame "cuts" on their all-round inefficiency. In the main they just need to get more professional.
When I was in Hawaii, my rental car was broken into. I needed a crime report for the insurers. I called 911. A local officer duly pitched up. He said he probably knew who had done it and was going to check for fingerprints. I said, how long will that take? He laughed and said, no time, I'm doing it now. He got a piece of kit out of his trunk recorded the prints and ran them through the central database. Answer: sorry too smudged can't get a match. I said what if you had. He said he'd be round the perp's apartment to arrest him straight away.
That was in 1988 by the way. What have the UK police been doing for the last thirty years? Still waiting around doing nothing until the specialist fingerprint offficer pitches up! And this "new" piece of Met kit only takes prints off individuals, not other surfaces, so it's already a piece of crap.
Then there's traffic accidents. Over here, they shut the road for hours on end and investigate - only to find insufficient evidence to prosecute anyone. In the States, they just use the push bumper bars on the front of the State Trooper's car to shift the damaged vehicles to the side of the road and let everyone else go about their business. Too much, just too much inefficiency in UK policing.

nackers are what the mrs would call chavs/scummie types etc.
Just drove up Gore Rd in Dartford (next to Darenth Valley Hospital), they have persuaded the fence to the hospital to fall down which has allowed about 12 caravans to enter. The police are already on watch out.

Here's an example. Loudly and proudly announced by the Met this week - mobile finger print-taking. news.met.police.uk/news/met-develops-mobile-fingerprint-device-to-save-time-and-public-money-317200
