Decent game again from Morgan. Didn’t always make the right decision on the ball but was plenty involved, looking to make things happen all the time, played some nice passes, and set pieces were a threat all afternoon - capped with two excellent assists. His form continues to move in the right direction.

Justified his selection, in my opinion, despite the raised eyebrows, pre-match, that Fraser didn’t start.
Can’t see anyone expected Fraser to start , given that he hasn’t played in weeks and we’ve been winning
Check the match thread. You can probably guess who one of the culprits was though.

Yeah good again. Some great set pieces that resulted in two assist. Covered a lot of ground in midfield. When he got on the ball in the first two thirds, he looked to make things happen.

His issue just seems to be that sometimes in the final third he just gets a little nervous or a little sloppy and makes a bad decision or takes a heavy touch. He's got all the tools. Hopefully that's something that, as he plays more, he irons out.

It was very recent that some were saying he was a non-league player. I always felt that was way off the mark. He's definitely got the ability for this league and maybe the Championship. It's just about getting the most out of that ability. To be fair to Albie, I don't think he's ever had a consistent run in a team in good form where he was both playing week in and week out, and playing in the same position. He may get rested when we play Saturday/Tuesday, but for now, as far as I'm concerned, the shirt is his. And I think this is a great time to evaluate Albie across a run of games in a decent and settled side.
  • Agree our best set piece taker but his decision making in open play is poor at times

Thats why he's in league 1, well that and a few other shortcomings.
  • Set pieces so much better with Albie
Very ably highlighted by the couple of shockers Gilbey put in after Morgan went off. Was surprised Fraser didn’t take them.
  • Cant drop Morgan after today. Never been a fan of him but you can see he has lifted his game in the last three matches. You have to reward that by letting him keep the shirt. Its good we now have competition to drive up the level of performance. However if we are to achieve a miracle and get in zmongst the top six it will be the added X factor of Fraser that does it. Looking forward to Tues and Bolton. Both teams on same points with good firm. Win that and we carry momentum to Wigan.
  • Been spot on since he has been bought back in. Seems like a top lad. Great interview just before today's game. Long may it last

  • Really impressed with his energy and is deceptively quick. Some great passing too. Still guilty of poor decision making at times, especially when he got into their box on a couple of occasions. Overall he has improved but still has work to do.

I’m sorry but a player has to do more than deliver an uncontested free kick well, let’s just forget everything else he does or doesn’t do. He has been better, but he’s just been better than the previous level of piss poor. His level now is what should be expected as a minimum requirement  and he’s getting praise for it. We have had to buy/ loan other players because the ones we’ve got haven’t been cutting it and Morgan is a prime example.
Let me ask you this then... What do you expect him to do?
Be better than he is. He’s had his chances and failed to take them after 80 odd appearances. If a better player comes in he will play before Albie, I think that will be Fraser. If Albie gets to the level required then I’ll happily watch progress us into the championship.

Sorry I'm not singling you out, I'm just trying to understand what Albie has to do for people to give him any plaudits.

How many 22 year olds in this league have 80 appearances under 3 different managers? There's a reason he keeps getting brought back in.

I expect Fraser to unseat him, but not right now. He's playing well and delivering at the moment.

  • One thing that frustrated me about Albie today (partly because I thought he'd done well up until it), was when he broke into the box again and for some reason ran the ball straight out of play rather than shooting - That part of his decision making needs to improve.

I felt that he was about to be replaced by Scott Fraser, until he got his second assist (as a few corners had been poor by his standards), who was ready to come on - And then wasn't surprised when Fraser replaced him after his blind alley moment.

Just hope it wasn't Jackson copying previous Managers by thinking: "Christ Albie, you've wasted too many chances here, off you come" - I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't start against Bolton, but hope its not another moment which get him hooked from the team.

i.e. If you compare the amount of opportunities he's wasted this season, compared with Elliot Lee and Alex Gilbey

I feel compared with those two, he's given a much shorter stick

I couldn’t care less if you are singling me out or not, for the record if you look at my previous posts I will give credit and have given credit when it’s due to him. I’ve also said I don’t think he is good enough if we are to rely on him for promotion, his all round game isn’t up to scratch and against the better midfields in this average league he disappears. At the moment I’ve admitted his recent performances have been better and so he keeps the shirt in a winning team. But I’d expect that to change with the other players that have come in. If he keeps improving and gains consistency then he will deserve the plaudits and I’ll be the 1st in line with them, as it will ultimately benefit the team we all want to see progress and be proud of again.

This seems overly harsh. You can't keep holding it against him that he has played poorly before (which he absolutely has as I will be first to point out.)

But if he's CURRENTLY playing well then he deserves praise for those current performances and he's kept his place on merit.

If he drops off again then he will lose his place and rightly so but until then acknowledging he is currently performing well is only fair.
Maybe harsh, but I’ve also stated he’s improved and would be a little unfair to drop him. But he needs to kick on.
  • Great set places and getting into good positions too.  Not finishing them at the moment but I think that could well come and hope it does with us.

I liked that Albie's head didn't drop when he put in a poor corner during the first half. He just picked up the clearance and immediately pinged back an absolute peach that Innis(?) should have done far better with. Good energy as well throughout the game.

Dazzler I’m sorry but if your throwing stats out for Albie it’s not going to help his cause. If it was 80 games starting and having lots of influence within them games then he’d probably be a championship player. 2 dead ball assists are different to a midfielder assisting from open play and controlling a game, both of which he doesn’t do, after 80 games you would expect more composure once you eventually get to the 18yard box.
  • Sorry can’t see the adulation.

Good delivery for the goals , but doesn’t do enough for the 90 mins to be a complete midfielder. Can’t remember a memorable tackle and too many passing errors.

Would love to be proved wrong in the next few weeks but I think he makes way for Fraser.

P.s what stats? I know his goalscoring hasn't been good enough, I know his tackles haven't been good enough, but I also know on recent performances both I and our management team see enough to keep him starting.

Well that’s incorrect, I don’t dislike him at all, I don’t know him.I was absolutely chuffed for him and his reaction to scoring a few weeks ago and posted to that effect afterwards.  Do I think he’s good enough to get us promoted, no, has he improved over 3 and a quarter games, yes. Would I be pleased to be proven wrong, yes. Do I think I will proven wrong, no.if your going to put words to my post at least read my views to determine if I’m a hater, or just someone who gives there honest opinion, right or wrong. Maybe have an opinion other than a cheap point scoring dig.
