  • It was indeed a 7 out of 10 performance, had he played the whole game as he did first half he'd have had a 5.5

If he played the whole game as he had the second it would have been an 8.
  • He was bang average in the first half, and a lot better in the second (same can be said for Lee) he needs to put together some 90 minute performances for me. Good goal, especially after the miss

Serious question: Do we have a better crosser of the ball than Albie Morgan? Y/N
Depends. He's ABLE to cross better than anyone else, but very rarely does it. His ceiling is high but he often underachieves compared to what he is capable of.
  • Morgan played well today. One of the few players out there who looked like a proper footballer, running with the ball into space and passing it to other players instead of just hoofing it forward
In a funny way, his general play in terms of pressing, movement and passing was better last week, but today he delivered more end product.

Either way it's 2 games running where he's justified his selection. Personally, I think he's been underused anyway, a bit ridiculous that he made no league appearances at all, not even off the bench, for nearly 3 months.

So, typical inconsistent Albie Morgan then 😅

Pleased for him and the goal, but, we've been here before, a better second half, 2 goals and 3 points will  change people's views in regards to the team and Morgan.

I'll keep on banging the Gilbey drum, he makes out midfield infinitely better, Morgan has hardly had any game time with him, hopefully now we'll see if he can get the Gilbey effect much like Dobson did.

Dobson - Gilbey - Morgan please.

(Just not Lee for a while....)
  • You'll see no argument here.

It should be Morgan or Lee not together

He scored right at the death but don’t let that paper over how poor he actually was. Missed a one on one, doesn’t tackle , doesn’t really get involved or show for the ball. Not good enough.
    What a load of bollocks.
It’s not though is it ? A couple of decent games in near on 70 appearances is ridiculous

You are contradicting yourself now. Your original post said "don't let that paper over how poor he actually was", but now you are saying that he has had a couple of decent games. You can't have it both ways.

So it was a 6.75 then?

Poor today. Poor most games. There you go.
  • It's all very well comparing him to Lee, I don't think either player is good enough to get us out of this league, they're both probably about the standard of where we find ourselves, mid table in League One. If we want to get out of this league we need better than the both of them rather than trying to compare them.

Great strike from Morgan with the second goal, hit it well. Earlier in the season he skied a few of those similar chances against Sheff Weds and Oxford so good to see an improvement today.

No his second half was much better than the first. That brought it up to 7.

Story of the whole team imo. Regardless of selection, you never get the same player come out from one half to another, and they very rarely hit anywhere near the 7/10 mark at the same time. You'll often get one 8/10 with all of the others being 6 or below.

Then the following week, a previous 4/10 becomes an 8/10 and man of the match.

To me it seems the so called "backbone" of the team can change every week. I think they need to make a decision and ship out those who ain't going to be a part of their plans and work with those that feel are.

  • I've tended to keep it zipped when others have criticised Albie in the past but hate the way in which he's been a scapegoat for so long when he does play.

Without dwelling on performances in the past, I've always seen a willing young ( yes, still young!) player who seems to be a perfectionist - and someone who appears very self critical when something doesn't come off for him on the pitch....and probably dwells on it too much to the detriment of his game.

I'm sincerely hoping that he's now maturing, both mentally & physically, and that what we witnessed today & last Saturday in Cheltenham will continue & that he'll command a regular start on matchdays from now on. For me, he has the energy & skill to be an important member of the squad from now on and feel it could set his progress back should he be sent out on loan now.

It's clear to me that Albie's team mates respect & think a lot of him as was shown when he scored this afternoon.

And the gaffer was clearly "made up" by his performance today as demonstrated by the big hug & chat as the lads left the pitch.

His place in the team is there for him to hold onto....and IMO, he's a far better prospect than our Luton loanee who consistently fails to deliver, I'm afraid.
This. Well said Fanny. He's still a young player learning his trade. No doubt there are certain aspects of his game that he needs to work on. His tacking, when to sit, when to go, for example.

If he was the complete package, he wouldn't still be with us!
Terrific passer, great vision, very good at dead balls, powerful shot, great energy and enthusiasm.

He had a superb second half, could easily have had a hat trick. Nothing wrong with the corner that was disallowed. Their defender had hold of Burstow, pushing him into their keeper, blocking the keeper off. Either an Albie goal, or penalty should have been awarded for the foul on Burstow.
I get the feeling with Albie that one day it will suddenly click, much like it did with Scotty when he returned from Norwich. He needs confidence and good coaching, let's hope Skiverton can be that man.
  • Right now he is the best deliverer  of any set piece and must start
  • Set pieces were all excellent, not one wasted by donating it to the keeper, and not one went harmlessly behind. So glad he got that goal, after the bollocking he got off Washington for not squaring the first chance he had. This lad so wants to do well for the club, maybe this goal ,and the fact he was getting in scoring positions is the start,I would love him to do well, and shut the doubters up.

  • Fair play to the lad. He's come in for a lot of criticism this season some of it deserved. However, he was certainly one of our better players at Cheltenham last week and I thought had a good solid game yesterday. Thoroughly deserved that goal. I was probably one of his biggest critics but he's certainly making me eat my words (based on the last 2 matches)
  • One thing I've not seen mentioned is I think he's looked a lot fitter these past couple of games - or at least fresher given he's not played too much recently. He bombed down the whole pitch to put pressure on their keeper at one point in the second half, and obviously still had plenty of energy to get in the box twice late on.

Personally I'd have been very disappointed had he squared it. Washington was a yard offside.

And what a great bit of skill to fashion that chance.

Agreed, I don't think we have another player who could have worked themselves into a shooting position like he did.
  • He deserves to start because the other players in our squad aren't much better and seem exhausted.

Should we build a promotion team around him next year? No. We need to get some better players in.
