  • Amount of junk at Charlton over recent years , no wonder we’re still sloshing about in the third tier .
We need more players capable of putting it in regularly in the league above if we want to get out and stay out of this shitehole .

Unfortunately he doesn’t have what it takes for now and for the good of himself and ours a fresh start somewhere may help him kick on
  • The way it’s going he’s likely to be released in the summer. He might be lucky enough to find a FL club but he’d have to fight for his place. It shouldn’t come as a shock to him if he ends up in non-league. Williams ended up in L2 and Solly in the 6th tier, he could easily end up at the same level as the latter.

A fresh start outside his Charlton comfort zone may be exactly what he needs. It’ll be interesting to see how he does elsewhere if he does move on.

Hasn’t he got another year left on his contract?
  • As much as we dislike agents in the modern game, it sounds like he might have a pretty poorly connected or non-existent one?

As has been mentioned, say if Pratley had given the Manager a nudge to look at getting Morgan in on loan. The Managet would have made an assessment from yesterday's game.

He has yes but he'll be 22 at the start of next season so will take up a squad place. If we don't see a future for him, we'd have to move him on.

He'll be loaned out in January and either come back into contention or be sold/released.

Released under contract is probably the worst outcome for a footballer.
  • I have seen him several times, dont really rate him bar the odd passing. Early in the season playing CAM did not suit and was wasteful, further back also dont think he is good enough, not sure he can play box to box. Really dont see him fitting in anywhere really, always hope for the best and its not impossible but for me he isn't good enough maybe league 2 at peak.

Would love to be wrong, send him out on loan and give him one more chance to impress elsewhere.
  • Funny isn't it Charlie Kirk probably played more games than Albie same age cost half a million and has been fucking awful, but let's rip the shit out of Albie, Kirk has played for a team that has consistently finished just above relagation zone or in a league below. Our fans are fucking priceless
All about opinions, this is the Albie Morgan thread not Kirk one...

Also as he is one of our own, we are more likely to have an opinion and root for him too just happens most don't fancy him at present.

  • Really poor tonight. Thought this would be his chance to prove himself
He wasn't really poor though. He was at the heart of most of our attacking play, and put in a shift defensively as well

In the first half, Morgan, Davison and Burstow were dominating the game, with Morgan setting the strikers up. Then Davison went off at HT and our attacking threat went as Wassim failed to get involved.

Morgan made mistakes, yes, but was still well ahead of most of the team in the second half who either had mares (Dele) or were invisible. I'd love to see the number of passes he made, when compared to Dempsey and Henry for example.
  • He was captain last night and a great opportunity to shine and inspire his peer group. Jacko gave him the chance and handed him the responsibility. It was a very poor performance. Nearly every ball he played was lost, even five yard passes. Played like he couldn't care less or was feeling ill. Sadly, miles away from the first team and has failed to reach a level of consistency needed to be a regular - needs a change.
  • Most people forget he is still only 21. Younger than Clayden, Dempsey and Ghandour.

I don't think that's the case, but very few have seen those players at 18/19, then again at 21/22 and realised there's been no progress. In fact, there's been regress. Perhaps we have with Dempsey, but then most people feel he has no future at the club too.

Clayden is 20. None of those 3 are a great example though as they probably won't make it with us either.

Was actually quite surprised we didn't loan Dempsey again this season as his career is pretty much going nowhere.

A valid point but he's a 21 year old whose made 80 odd appearances thus far and its still not very clear what he actually does. Is he a deep lying passer? A box to box runner? A playmaker behind the strikers? He's been tried in all 3 but none of them really seem to suit him.

Which is the problem I have with the "he needs to be given a chance" argument - given a chance to do what? To be what? Bowyer, Adkins and Jackson (two of them accomplished midfielders and the other an advocate for youth development) have all so far failed to identify any position that he seems suited for. At some point surely it becomes an issue that he just isn't going to make it.

Morgan has been at the club how long? Made his debut when? He is settled here, knows all the faces at the training ground, born in the local area, as of last year he was living with parents, may still be. Ultimately he is settled at the club but hasn’t progressed and hasn’t had any relative footballing success

kirk is new, doesn’t know the area, has no family here, lost his dad, no friends here, has to learn who every one is at the training ground, has to learn new coaching and training methods, generally has to settle and start again. Has a promotion with goals and assists on his cv.

Morgan has had 90 chances to claim a spot over 3.5 seasons. Kirk has had less than 10 in 3 months.

apart from the three paragraphs above, your comparison of them being similar ages is spot on

morgan is very unlikely to make it with us, Kirk may or may not come good. I know which one I would now invest time and effort in.

Morgan should be dominating and more involved when compared to an 18 year old and a guy that somehow got a contract after playing two or three times for the first team at the age of 22
  • Wonder how Morgan fared against Ged's magic Black box and compared with the rest of the team last night, measured by the same?
Assuming of course that the Black box is fired up for a pizza match.
Jacko seemed pleased with his physical effort, but there was a strong hint that his application is not up to scratch.
Unless something changes in his game, or an injury crisis dictates that he has to play, I can't see him getting many more minutes of first team footy in the league for the rest of this season.
So a loan in a lower league is probably the best way to give him one final chance to shine, before deciding whether to renew his contract.
    But who would have him?

Not piling on Steve, just to say this comment reminded me of something that happened earlier in my career, when my boss kept bringing up my colleague's poor performance and attitude (he was my best mate) during my review. And I said, what has his performance got to do with mine?

I get the point around his age and effectively playing with the U23's last night, but think it's a bit irrelevant though, it's about his squad status, and for the last couple of seasons he's been a first team player and now supposed to be our first choice number 10.... And after a couple of seasons he still isn't doing it.

Yes, he may well still develop as age is on his side, but right now, he ain't good/ consistent enough to be in our first team, as his squad status deems he should.

Clayden, Ghandour, Deji - were all expected to be "involved" with the first team and they have been, it's different with Morgan as he's supposed to have already made it.

Morgan's dad hasn't just died, nor has he moved half the length of the country.  Kirk has played a handful of games for us.

Albie has played nearly 100 games for us and hasn't improved since his 1st one.  I would hardly say that's ripping the shit out of him.  Especially compared to some of the abuse other players get.
He has improved some aspects. Just not enough. His workrate for example is much better.
  • Albie might be well served with a short spell at National League (N or S) level to get used to playing weekly and get up to speed for the chance of a January loan to L2
