Lyle Taylor - August 2025 signed for Chelmsford City (p295)

I thought he got a decent amount of adulation (songs, cheers etc..), slightly more than a regular game. My view is 99% of charlton fans love him and are desperate to stay with 1% naysayers and twitter trolls telling him to f’ off. He is an idol to all the young charlton fans I know and they will be heart broken if he leaves. Come on charlton and Lyle, do the right thing and stay for another 2 years.Alwaysneil said:Lyle I reckon feeds off the buzz from us as fans. Today he didn’t get as much adulation and he won’t unless he signs a new contract. I hope we can get something to work for him as with him, Hemed and maybe someone else as well in, the crowd will bounce. He will do well to stay both financially (I hope) and he will perform at a higher standard with Charlton than with a move imo.Fingers crossed.2 -
The conditions at Swansea were also awful for players coming back from long term injury. When you aren't sure if your footing will stick.0

By the time Taylor had come on Williams had already given the Fulham defence something to think about and they were much more hurried in their clearances/passes, we were therefore able to play a bit higher up the pitch. Also the balls put into Taylor were much lower and he had the skill and mobility to make Hector look a much more average player than in the first half.
Agree with others, I hope we can sell to Lyle the idea of staying as he makes a real difference. I would imagine one of his big considerations is that his ‘window’ of being able to play in the Premier League is limited at his age. By joining one of the teams at the top of the Championship he is more likely to realise that dream.0 -
It's cause in sports some people just have a presence about them. Lyle definitely has that, most arrogant striker I've ever seen play for us and that's not a bad thing at all.
As said ESI should probably just break the bank, if he was let's say 23 with his current ability he would be worth 10 million at the very least, he is getting on yes but it's not like he is showing any signs of slowing down or will his age effect his playstyle too much imo. I would offer him some sort of package worth up to 2/3 million over 3 years with incentives/bonuses. We will not get a player as good as him for that price so I don't see why not. Anyone in the team has an issue I would just say tough, you ain't as good as him
These players like Lyle, Phillips, Lockyer, Doughty, Matthews, Bonne, Cullen top of my head are good enough to at the very least make us a consistent mid table championship side. Need to get them all on decent contracts6 -
For me Taylor is the ethos of Bowyer's Charlton on the pitch.mascot88 said:He is so good, that cross almost won us the game... the vision and way he strikes the ball similar to Wembley... He will be the difference and will keep us up, he DESERVES a pay rise and to be paid what he is worth in this division.
Captain would be a lovely tip of the hat too.
Madness to even consider letting him leave.18 -
I think very few would be happy to let him leave, but we may not have a choice.RodneyCharltonTrotta said:

We have got a choice we can either up the offer previously on the table or turn down any offer which is not above the Chairman's 'silly' (on the high side) valuation.cafcfan1990 said:

Agreed. We ran the risk with Bauer by keeping him and losing him on a free but that meant we went up; as much as I have huge faith in Bowyer, staying up will be considerably easier with Lyle, evidently.RodneyCharltonTrotta said:

No doubt that Lyle is a better player and had a more all round game. I think the point is that Hemed battled hard despite us not playing to his strengths and he did give us something up top. He is a good player and we will need him between now and the end of the season.killerandflash said:
But the difference between Hemed and Taylor wasn't the service they got. Taylor was more physical, faster and had much better movement. Taylor can create chances for himself and others too, he's not a goal poacher.Oggy Red said:

If Lyle stays (and keeps fit) we'll stay up easily, he's that good.7 -
I meant in the summer. Definite madness to let him go for less than 6-7 million now.RedChaser said:

Madness to even consider letting him leave.I dont know what the contract offer is. But if most of our players are going to be on circa 8k then we really can’t afford to offer more than double that.0 -

Ok but I never said double it but Bowyer said last night he hopes he can get him to reconsider on the back of his own 3.5 year deal so you agree we do have a choice now then? 😉cafcfan1990 said:

Hope he knows the Scott Parker story as the 'one greedy bastard' song coincided with his warm up

Give the bloke what ever he wants. Please.9
-
It would work out cheaper for ESI to pay him a decent amount then to go out and get a good enough replacement for him.I honestly think he will stay & sign a new deal.8
-
Of course Bowyer is going to say that. He will want him to stay. I said we may not have a choice which is evidently clear. What if Taylor gets an offer from a Prem club in the summer? It’s in our hands to reject a bid now but it’s not in the summer. We need to do everything in our power to keep him but ultimately it might not be enough.RedChaser said:

We must have been watching a different game, hemeds movement, awareness, lack of hold up play the list goes on leave me wondering what player QPR loaned last season, as this one seems pony. Davison causes more havoc and has a better all round game then him and the kid was playing for enfield town not long ago.Showmetheway2gohome said:I thought that hector was man of the match.but Hemed put in a great shift and made him work for it. but you could see the difference when Taylor came on did trouble him more with his physical strength2 -
Hemed will hopefully turn into this year's Parker (with goals, with any luck); by that, I mean a player that will, when fit, offer a useful alternative to the Taylor/Bonne partnership, when everyone is fit.cantersaddick said:

Funny how we see a game differently , I thought Hemed had his best game so far , up front and isolated with no service , he put in a good shift. Shame for him when the more creative players came on he went offCAFCDAZ said:

I don’t think he will sign a deal but advertise himself between now and the end of the season, which benefits us.
When he’s a free agent he’s free to speak to who he likes and see what deal he can get etc. He hasn’t had a fruitful career until the last few years so he will require a big contract as he approaches his 30s.0 -

Hang on you said on another thread at roughly the same time something like 'let's not worry about our striker options in the summer' so why would I assume that's what you were talking about here. We are clearly talking at cross purposes and it's the here and now where we do have a choice and that's what is evidentially clear to me.cafcfan1990 said:

If we don’t offer an improved contract now and also turn down every transfer offer that comes from elsewhere, then we’d have Taylor for rest of the season at current wage. Is that possibly the plan of ESI? And then they’ll be in a position to replace him properly in the summer outside of January madness.0

I think you are having me confused with someone else. The summer is a completely different thing altogether. The priority has to be staying up. Personally I thought what I was saying about keeping Taylor was quite clear, maybe I was wrong.RedChaser said:

Maybe but we should still give it a good shot at keeping him. That could well be the scenario that unfolds but replacing the talents of Taylor, when he's not only been the top scorer, penalty king, and best assists but the best wide man when he charges down the wing will be neigh on impossible.

Just sign him up,weve waited years for a player like Lyle and it will be years before we find another like him13

You are taking it out of context though. Yes we shouldn’t be worrying too much about next seasons squad now because we are in a relegation battle. Of course you have to keep it in mind but it’s like worrying about replacing Cullen, it’s not something that concerns us right now.RedChaser said:

Work on the summer will start on 1 February.
Avory, Euell, Bowyer and Gallen will look at the current U18, U23 and 1st team squad to see what we already have and from that what we need.
Gallen will start drawing up a list of players.
Well, at least that is what I hope and expect will happen.12 -
Ah yeah definitely but shouldn’t start stressing too much. We also need to concentrate on the pitch. Not easy to plan next season without knowing which division you are going to be in.Henry Irving said:Work on the summer will start on 1 February.
