He got a bit of stick at the away game, but that's natural when he goes through one of our players with his studs up and gets sent offTodds_right_hook said:
Agreed. I remember him being clapped when his name was called outCAFCsayer said:killerandflash said:The abuse Grant got in the match at Huddersfield was pretty unpleasant really, it went way beyond the "pantomime booing" ex players sometimes get. He was perfectly entitled to cock an ear to the Charlton fans after scoring.
The stick Bielik got when we played Derby was rather unnecessary too
Grant got pelters, but I dont remember Bielek getting stick at all2 -
Nothing like the abuse Grant got, but the booing during the game (before the sending off) was undeserved for a loan player who gave his all and helped get us promoted.sam3110 said:

I wonder when we will hear where Taylor is going to? If he already had a deal before, wouldn't it be announced by now? Or won't it be until after the end of the season if he can't play again this season?0
-
Maybe the club signing him don't like his 'I'll play when I want' attitude.4
-
well if that's true then fine but all i remember was being excited as a kid that John Barnes ex-England international was going to play for us. then i saw him. real let down. then again as you say his best was in the late 80s and early 90s and we got him in 1999.Talal said:
Barnes? Not for me. Granted he didn't do much but was a free and at the very end of his career. Also in Curbs' book I'm sure he spoke positively of him and his attitude.Karim_myBagheri said:
i'll also add Hasselwank and John Barnes to Room 101Isawsummersplay said:The two Danny's, Mills and Murphy would also make my Room 101.0 -
I though Barnes did well for us not mobile but still class on the ball enjoyed seeing him in our red shirt, Certainly no negatives for me.

Wowsers, are we signing John Barnes?0
-
I am really surprised we definitely don't know where he is going to play next season, thought someone would know1

His performance away at West Ham in the 1-0 win was a midfield masterclass. He didn’t really get up and down the pitch, but he dictated the play and his range of passing was top notch. He was worth signing for that game alone.superdulvertonred said:I though Barnes did well for us not mobile but still class on the ball enjoyed seeing him in our red shirt, Certainly no negatives for me.12 -
Its such a shame the way it ended, as his record for us was fantastic. I am truly gutted about how it all panned out, his stunning goal and assist tally for us tarnished with his shitshow attitude at the end0

Away at West Ham, John Barnes was superb for us. Never left the centre circle but didn't need to...superdulvertonred said:I though Barnes did well for us not mobile but still class on the ball enjoyed seeing him in our red shirt, Certainly no negatives for me.5 -
And Steve Gallen reported to a supporters' meeting that Grant was in tears when he said his goodbyes.charltonnick said:I've got no problem with Grant , he probably increased his salary x 5 when he moved. Charlton could have turned the offer down

Put yourself in his shoes. He was head and shoulders above most in our squad. RD offered him a new contract, not sure how much but say 10k a week. New arab owner comes in and offers 5k. CEO tells lies and calls him out. Then a host of clubs come calling offering him more money than he's ever seen in his life. What would you do? He always gave his all for us, you can't ask for more than that...8

I can. He could have given his all in the last three games of his contract.Redhenry said:Put yourself in his shoes. He was head and shoulders above most in our squad. I agree with Red Henry would have liked Lyle to complete the season but understand why not and you cant just write off all he has done for us in the last two seasons

And then play the last 6 games of the season, score the goals that keep us up and leave a heroLargeAddick said:

can't argue with any of that......however I'd honour the contract I did signRedhenry said:Put yourself in his shoes. He was head and shoulders above most in our squad. I don't think anyone begrudges him deciding to leave. The manner in which he has done so, along with Solly, is utterly disgraceful though.Redhenry said:Put yourself in his shoes. Neither should be welcome back at The Valley and that is down to them, not our owners.7 -

Well according to his twatter he is still a professional footballer with CAFC !!!0

Agree with redhenry but unfortunately for Lyle Taylor the footballing word has changed and don't think there be so many clubs that can afford his wage demands now I also believe if he had agreed to finish the season with us his value would have gone up and he would have been ready for next season1

I would play out the rest of my initial contract, so 3 more games and leave with my head held high and the respect of the fansRedhenry said:Put yourself in his shoes. Never understand 'fans' giving stick to players who have done really well for us and then move on up the football food chain. That's just how football works. If they gave their all for us in a red shirt, that's good enough for me.
Besides, if you look at it selfishly; what is the point in motivating an ex-player to play out of his skin against us by giving him stick? We all know how well players can play against former clubs when they feel they have been wronged in some way by them. Giving stick to KAG was out of order as well as a stupid thing to do as it motivated him considerably. So why do it - unless you are as thick as pig shit that is!1 -
The main point here is the fact that he wouldn't see out his contract due to fear of being injured before his big money move. But getting injured can happen at any time and using that as an excuse to not play again is very poor form10
-
I thought it was the move of a lifetime he had lined up? Instead he has joined Crewe Alexandra. Proper Charlton though, going to the Railwaymen. Gone back up in my estimation.Lordflashheart said:Well according to his twatter he is still a professional footballer with CAFC !!!4 -
I completely understand the frustration he must have felt, and I understand he has to look out for himself and his long term financial wealth. If I was him, the moment my contract was over, I would be joining the club which offer me the most amount of money, I do not care about loyalty or what the fans think. Especially when Bob who sits in the covered end probably messes about in his own job, pulls sickies, and does not pull his weight.Redhenry said:Put yourself in his shoes. However that is no excuse to not turn up to work and finish your contract off. Indeed, the worst part of him not wanting to 'risk injuring' himself is that he has let down his team mates, some (Phillips, Lockyer, Pearce and Cullen) who have battled every minute on the pitch for us for these last three games. They are out there risking injury to themselves because they are contracted to do, and because they want to do.

Spot on. If you start something, you should finish it. Those games he should have played we have done pretty well, however he's still a knob for not seeing out those 3 fixtures. Even if the results had been the same, the goal difference could have been larger with Lyle in place of Hemed or Bonne.SurvivaloftheFittest said:
