[cite]Posted By: roseandcrown[/cite]looks like Charley said it as well surely she shouls also get kicked out, what the diffrence in her saying and Emily saying?
In fact thinking about this some more and not trying to be provocative this time, if two people used this word and the punishments differed due to skin colour then C4 are guilty of a far more important act of racism than the contestants. Surely though C4 wouldn't have thought of this and the publicity it would spark.
if i called myself an idiot, is different to someone calling me an idiot. whether jokey or not.
i know the word idiot isn't offensive, but change the word, and its the same isn't it? calling myself something isnt deemed offensive where as calling someone it, is?
its all about the way it is used an who its used to.
i'm not ashamed to admit that to a number of my black friends i will say "word up n*gger" in a fun or jovial way. if i said to the same people "f*ck off you n*gger" i'm pretty sure i'll get punched.
Conversely i would never say the first phrase to someone i have never met.
Yeah the options on TV last night were - 10 total strangers and a pretty boy, locked up together for a few days, tantrums, arguments ending in general running around, doing nothing and acheiving very little, but a big fuss made over them in the media... or big brother. It was quite an easy choice in the end
My recptionist has just informed me that an attractive, skinny blonde girl who likes to sit crossed legged infront of a camera in a bikini has just been booted off a tv show. Why the f*ck haven't I been watching this?

I wasn't going to bother commenting until I read this but...absolutely spot on Santa.
For me, the producers kicked Emily out as they felt their hands are tied after the last debacle - if they had tried to cover it up or brush it under the carpet then they would've been absolutely ruined for it. But in doing what they've done they've potentially made a grave error - punishing the white girl for using the n word and left the black girl alone, even though it was used in a completely non-malicious way, the black girl was in no way offended and she used the word herself.
Fair play to stamping down on this behaviour, it's a disgusting word, but in punishing one and not the other they've royally fooked up. I hope the resulting coverage reflects this and shows this up as the PC-gone-mad reaction it really is.
as pointed out elsewhere there is a difference between calling yourself an idiot and someone else calling you an idiot. Emily was stupid to use the N word but it seems she didn't do so in a racist or derogatory way. However, as someone who listens to a lot of hip-hop, R&B etc it is a word that often crops up in songs and almost entirely used by black artists. Now if they are happy to use it to one another is it any wonder that it is creeping back into society in general and becoming au fait as is the word 'wigga'.
Have to say i feel that, apart from Big brother, i think C4 is the best independant terestrial (sp?) channel in the UK and far better than ITV1.
It produces some very diverse programming and isn't completely focused on showing bland rubbish in order to try to get a further 0.1% in the ratings.
BB on the other hand is total cack and i'm not sure who i feel most sorry for, those in there trying to get their 15 mins of fame or those who watch it obsessively.
she was clearly very sincere.. and the word really aint that bad between mates, its used commonly between black people i know and between myself and some black friends..
she should of got a slap on the wrist not chucked out.. PC gone f*cking mad.. and that bloody indian girl and the shab girl stirred it right up
Shes from a upper class background and she tried to be street to get in and be friends with Charley. Fair play to Charley sticking up for her and being concerned for Emily compared to Nikki who was trying to tell Charley that their was something sinister over Eimly words.
I hope Emily does not get crusified by the looney new labour left. Fair play to George GAlloway for sticking up for Emily aswell.
It appears that stricter standards are applied to white people than other ethnic groups if the white girl was thrown out for using the word but the other ethnic groups that also used the word were not thrown out.
I don't watch the programme so can only go on what I've read.
It appears that what this girl did was far less serious than the scouser and Jade in the "celebrity" version of the programme. If, as I've read, it is true that an Asian girl also used the word at the same time as the white girl then why wasn't she thrown out too?
One could argue that the white girl, although undeniably stupid in what she said, has been discriminated against on racial grounds which is somewhat ironic given the nature of the offence.
I think this girl is being punished retrospectively for the actions and words of Jade Goody and Danielle Lloyd as much as for what she herself said.

agreed and if she was allowed to stay in, being told off and let them argue the conversation out, then it would have been deemed "too soft"
i think she's learnt her lesson after all, she's only been disqualified from a 'game' its no biggie. i just hope other kids/viewers will have learnt that its not an acceptable word.
Comments
i think most agree its an awful word, but its good that attention is brought to it to show that it isn't acceptable.
oh yeah.
yours cynically.....

;-)
spike lee films are littered with it as well - samuel l jackson i am sure has used it in a few films.
wasm't there a group called NWA - niggers with attitude.
just a thought

Reminds me of Catch 22:
'How can he see he's got flies in his eyes if he's got flies in his eyes?'
I just cant understand that people still watch it... All it is these days is a show piece for talentless, desperate people to have their 15 mins.
I made the mistake of flicking onto Ch 4 last night to be faced with some fat slag in a skirt that was far too short for her corned beef legs saying
"I'll do it. I'll do anyfing". "Im only in here for the exposure"........

Reasons not to miss the UK: Big Brother
