CARD statement 15/3/18: protests set to resume on Easter Monday (ed. cancelled)

Apparently due to open in May. Not bookable yet. I'm sure he'd love a block-booking from southeast London. Worth keeping an eye on Booking.com as they won't be in a position to decline the booking.roseandcrown said:When his new hotel open?
Also check if there's an option to book without credit card. Many hotels offer this option for some unfathomable reason. There's nothing worse for those in the business than no-shows, especially when they can't be charged, even more when the bookers can't be traced.
I'm not suggesting anyone might want to do this, I am just stating facts from a hoteliers point of view!4 -
Even better to book it, go there, stick everything on a tab, go to reception the following morning, make a spurious complaint about room, food, trip hazards, dirty whatever, electric shock, broken bed, non flushable W.C., no hot water, noisy neighbours, picture falling on you, staff rudeness, etc, etc and refuse to pay.1

The takeover thread is becoming sidetracked so bumping this.
Seems the resignation of KR and a victory on Saturday has dampened the mood. Yet the last public statement by any club official regarding the takeover was 'it's completely up in the air.'
To protest or not to protest on Monday?0 -
This new era demands that we protest by not protesting.3

The club official saying the takeover was completely up in the air, has now left the building.SurvivaloftheFittest said:The takeover thread is becoming sidetracked so bumping this.

A lot has changed since that night in Blackpool.0 -
Last statement by said official was “It is very close again” in Friday’s SLP - albeit he was no longer a club official by then.SurvivaloftheFittest said:The takeover thread is becoming sidetracked so bumping this.

It is almost as if KR made that up to divert attention from the poor performances caused, in part, by him running around the training ground telling the players and everyone else how shit the club was and that he was trying to resign.Airman Brown said:

In reality, KR had no more clue about what the stage the takeover was at than he did about any formation other than 4231.1 -
Does anybody know if there is a new bidder entering the party late? If so, it is surely a significant development that could delay things!0
-
In view of the current situation. Bowyer as manager the possibility of the takeover being imminent again!
I would ask for all protests to be put on hold.1 -
Maybe we could request a honest statement of where we are as a condition to putting them on hold?0

I reckon we should just tickle Roland’s balls gently so as not to offend him .
I know for a fact protests will make him keep the club/ stop the takeover / stop us getting promoted .0 -
The Coalition Against Roland Duchatelet (CARD) has withdrawn its plans to protest against the current ownership of Charlton Athletic at the Easter Monday game against Rotherham United.
CARD said there had been significant developments since its previous announcement two weeks ago. That followed then manager Karl Robinson’s comments to the media suggesting a takeover might be delayed indefinitely.
A CARD spokesperson said: “Although we have not received the firm evidence of a takeover that we wanted, things have moved on and we no longer think it is appropriate to take action on Easter Monday.
“Karl Robinson’s departure as manager is clearly linked to the takeover, which is now being widely reported by mainstream media as imminent.
“Public and private sources suggest there is no reason to think that Duchatelet himself intends to be owner of Charlton for much longer.
“In addition, we believe the change of manager and subsequent dramatic improvement on the pitch last Saturday have revived fans’ hopes that the team could still be promoted via the play-offs.
“While we don’t respond to individual results, the team’s status next season is clearly significant to the club’s long-term future, which is our main concern. And we believe most Charlton fans would regard trying to get promoted as the immediate priority they can usefully influence."

HI. Good statement. It might a good idea to change the title of the thread to something like Protests off or suspended etc" pls0
-
But if results dont go to plan over easter probably look at protesting at the Scunthorpe game11
-
Heard a rumour from a good source that the takeover of CARD is immiment2
-
The fact that there have only been 4 comments in an hour would suggest CARD have made the right decision (as always).8

" signicant development"? Would you like to elaborate please.
"No firm evidence of a takeover". So what has changed?
" change of manager and significance of improvement on the pitch"? Really, after one game?

The B20 have decided to carry on protesting. As no one has commented on that so far it must be a fucking brilliant decision.Covered End said:The fact that there have only been 4 comments in an hour would suggest CARD have made the right decision (as always).

When isn't it a brilliant decision to go on a boozy bender in Belgium?Mametz said:

When England are playing them?1 -
For the first time ever I find myself not being wholly supportive of a Card statement. Whilst I accept that it was probably the right decision, mainly because there isn't the mood amongst the majority for a demo (as witnessed by a string of posts on here yesterday to that effect).
I'm not sure what tangible evidence we have coming directly from the club that anything has changed. The stories we have are all based on hearsay and rumour. As for the play-offs, this is a complete turnaround. How many times have we said before that it's not about results? Well, it seems that all of a sudden it is. Fickle football fans, eh!
Ah well, not to worry. Card have been magnificent to date. Hopefully their next message will be along the lines of 'Yippee aye ay, we've won the war, now let's get on with the business of rebuilding '.6 -
To be fair though,Stig said:For the first time ever I find myself not being wholly supportive of a Card statement. Meire has gone,
The last of their inept managers has gone,
The club is being (albeit slowly) sold.
I don't see the point of a protest.2 -
I don't actually agree with calling it off. We had one good game under a caretaker manager and we've still not been taken over. If the takeover is complete by Monday then great but if not my opinion is it just makes it look like we're chasing results, not total change at the club. We've also long since established that protests don't affect the players negatively when it comes to results. However, I can also see that there's a lot of people who want to stop the protests after the Plymouth game so I'm happy for the majority to win out on this one, I just don't agree6

Meire had gone way b4 the CARD announced further protests.Baldybonce said:

Likewise, announcements/ remours of a sale have been on the cards b4 resumption of protests were announced.
I happily agee that the protest should be deferred but because there doesnt seem the desire from the supporters to resume, based solely upon one good result.
But I still want understand the rationale behind the decision by CARD - see my earlier post in which I raised some points re their statement.
Thanks2 -
I don’t think the protest at the Valley would have made a blind bit of difference to Roland.
He does not give a shit what happens over here.
He does however when the protests are in his own backyard.
In fact I think we should still protest in Belgium even when he does sell, Upset his way of life like he has done to ours for the last 4 years!

Postponing is better than having a protest that nobody turns up for. If that were to happen, CARD would lose all credibility.1
