  • Fantastic result. Only 3 points off the top too.
  • Brilliant game and a big crowd as well!

Massive result that. Mel has been overdue a goal and she chose a good time to get it. Only 3 points off first now
  • Tight game, although thought we deserved the victory. Should have had a pen in 1st half and ref didn't give a blatant passback to keeper who picked it up because she was under pressure. At times seemed to our better skill level against their stronger physical presence.
Lewes away next but after that we play the top 2.
  • Today was fun, enjoyed the game and doubly pleased we ended their unbeaten run. Was fairly close to the Nigellas' dugout and heard their manager swear at the 4th official fairly constantly, at one point telling him to fuck off. I can't imagine our side doing that, or getting away with it.  Compared to the last game against them I thought we were a lot better and dealt with their niggly fouls and physicality pretty well.
Felt weird to have people in their clown shirts in amongst us.

Even better on TV than when I saw it live! Lovely little run, pass, then smash!!!

  • Mel Johnson scored for Jamaica on debut. 2-2 v Guatemala.
  • Reminder that this weekend's game is a Friday night fixture, 7pm at Lewes.
  • The game away at Lewes this evening will be streamed live on FA player.
    Kick off at 7pm.
  • Well that was something you don't often see in the women's game. An outbreak of what the men's game would call handbags broke out after what did seem a rather heavy challenge by Longhurst. Ends up with her and one of the Lewes players off and we carry on 10 a side.
  • Unable to break through here.
  • 1-0 Charlton.
  • Was a poor game and pretty even but a win is a win.
  • The red cards seemed to help us; we looked better with the game more open. We'll need to play a lot better than that at Southampton next week, but it's 3 points and on we go. This team is developing a knack for just about edging tight games, which is a very valuable skill to have.
  • They had a bit of a slow start to the season but the women seem to building a bit of momentum now. Everyone around us has a game in hand due to us playing tonight but the points on the board matter

We will miss Longhurst I think?

Longhurst appeared to elbow someone. There were some very hard tackles afterwards.

The penalty was very dubious and there were comical protests from Lewes including their keeper "diving" in front of ref. Got her a yellow card. It got a bit tasty at the end of the game and the sides had to be separated.

3 Dec: International break. England play Netherlands at Wembley Fri 1/12 and Scotland at Hampden Tues 5/12.
10 Dec: FA Cup. Draw scheduled for Mon 27 November.

The England games in early December are both must-wins if there's to be even a slim chance of Team GB being at the Olympics in France next year. The slip-up in Belgium last time out looks like being extremely costly.
  • The Sunderland game has been moved to The Valley. Noon kick off.
  • Let's have another go at that one...

  • The FA have a new website for the WSL and Championship. They're still moving things across and at the moment the league cup is missing both from the old site and the new one. Other than a snazzier layout, the main improvement seems to be that the match venues are linked to google maps of the grounds, which may be handy if you want to watch us at Sunderland and have no idea where Eppleton Colliery Welfare is. One minor annoyance is it includes links to the FA Player site under all games, rather than just for the one game that will actually be shown (it's not us this week, unless Southampton are streaming it somewhere).

Also free tickets if you're a season ticket holder for the men's team.
  • I think Southampton are showing today's game on their website. Not sure whether you need to register though.
