Tons from Kuhn and Denly, another failure from Billings.
Yep it is in spite of Billings' form - 60 in 10 innings is shocking. As I said I'm not sure how you play yourself into from when the onus is to get on with things as soon as you get in. The County Championship can do that.
Excellent days cricket with Kuhn and Denly getting tons and some nice run outs from Denly in the field. Bloody hot though and the ice cream stall must have made a killing.
Just seen Billings called up for England so will not be available after the Essex game. On present form no loss but he is due an innings. Won't get one for England as he will just carry the drinks!

That means he will miss the QF and SF matches in the Royal London. Plus 3 red ball matches. It makes the choice of him as captain even more bizarre
I'm glad we've not lost him to England duties, but am baffled why England would again pick Billings as a specialist ODI batsman instead of say Joe Denly (another ton today).
I see that DBD is captaining the 2s today. It seems that he is looking to go in a different direction because he batted at 8 (scored just 2) and so far has bowling figures of 4-1-20-2!

Bit curious why he is playing in that match,as he hardly needs the match practice. Billings should have played really as a batsman!

It is indeed - interestingly he came on 2nd change and I have at the back of my mind that until his late teens, as well as being a front line bat, he was a medium quick bowler until he suffered an injury (possibly back related) that put a stop to that.

if he had a back injury, that makes him a proper Kent bowler...
I thought Billings had a bit of form coming off the IPL? Strange that he's been so poor in the One Day Cup...
He had no form whatsoever coming from the IPL - he got a very early 50 but then was in and out of the side and his last 7 innings produced just 52 runs. So, when we add his scored from his 3 innings since, he has 60 from his last 10.
If he wasn't captain and in the England set up I would suggest that he would have played in yesterday's 2s match instead of DBD - although there are probably rules for that comp about current internationals not being allowed to play.
Podmore seems quite a nice bloke by the way, was out with him/Rouse/Blake on Friday night and chatted to him for quite a while. Seemed quite determined to turn it around and get back in the side although he agreed with the decision to drop him because he was shocking against Somerset. Quite a good/realistic attitude to have, I felt.

Fair enough. I heard about the 50 early on and hardly bothered to check the rest, just assumed he had done well.

Anyone who needs to pay their CAST subs can find me in the Hayes End.
1 each for Haggett, Henry and Stevens.
Henry's 50th Kent wicket.
