The Coalition Against Roland Duchatelet (CARD) is delighted to welcome the Charlton owner’s public statement today that “it is now likely that the club will change ownership” and his personal confirmation that this is the background to news of Katrien Meire’s departure.
The club announced earlier today that the chief executive had quit her post with effect from the end of December and that no replacement would be put in place as “we’re currently in talks with various interested parties regarding a potential takeover”.
A CARD spokesperson said: “Christmas has arrived a little late in SE7 this year, but we are very pleased indeed that the club has finally admitted it is close to a takeover, as well as announcing Meire’s departure. She was a hopeless chief executive and will not be missed.
“CARD believes that the other members of the club’s senior management team - which for clarity does not mean the playing management - are individually and collectively discredited too, and that they should follow her out the door as soon as practical under new ownership.
“We have been aware for some months of serious takeover discussions and have judged it right to let these talks take their course without further protests organised by us.
“We now look forward to welcoming new owners to Charlton in the near future and trust that their arrival will provide a fresh start for everyone who has the club’s interests at heart.
“The fight to return Charlton to rational leadership is not yet completely won, but the end is surely in sight. We hope that all supporters will feel able to adopt as positive a perspective on these developments as us.
“After four years, the black clouds over The Valley are lifting at last. Happy 2018.”

Precisely. Get the paperwork signed and sealed, then deal with the sackings afterwards.
