We won
A lot of our fans played an enormous part in making this happen. I would like to say well done, thanks and it couldn't have been achieved without some amazing efforts.
Charlton Athletic football club is about to leave behind one hell of a problem.
A new chapter in our history is on the horizon.
Be positive and be excited for it. There is a lot of uncertainty but may as well just be relieved Roland the club soul crusher is on his way out.
Have a great new year!

Guess we will never know how big a part the protests, CARD etc played in the decision to sell but very excited that he appears to be on his way.3

A bit premature if you ask me - he still owns the club and I wouldn't ever count on a football club sale going through.
We can declare victory once he's officially out the door.35 -

If there were no protests then the experiment would have gone towards a darker path.cafcfan1990 said:Guess we will never know how big a part the protests, CARD etc played in the decision to sell but very excited that he appears to be on his way.
Or he would have just completely forgot he was our owner altogether.2 -
He’s not gone yet . I won’t celebrate until i see the
AustralianChineseNigerianArabOwners & Richard Murray parading on the pitch3 -
Sorry to put a dampener on things, but it's worthwhile perspective to go back to some of the threads from Dec 2013 to see how excited many of us were that the Slater/Jimenez/Cash period was behind us and a new exciting era dawned....6

Sod all this caution, I'm enjoying the moment big style. If it all goes tits up later, so be it. But do you know what, those of us that celebrated will have had a good time whilst those of that didn't will have missed out.12

Fair point, but allow us a day or two of celebrations that these odious idiots have gone. I struggle to think that at any time many of us will hark back to the good old days of Duchatalet.newyorkaddick said:Sorry to put a dampener on things, but it's worthwhile perspective to go back to some of the threads from Dec 2013 to see how excited many of us were that the Slater/Jimenez/Cash period was behind us and a new exciting era dawned....

No takeover confirmation on OS all day.
Must mean it's all off.4 -
That's not something that can be proved though. I suspect it made a difference and I am not taking anything away from the protests, I absolutely agree that something had to be done.Dave2l said:

To be honest, there is no need to discuss how much impact they had on Roland's decision. The fact is he seems to be going and Meire is certainly off, let's just enjoy it

Did we win? Not yet. Roland has been losing pretty much since day one though.1

Or you'll be all partied out by the time it's really time to celebrate !Stig said:Sod all this caution, I'm enjoying the moment big style. If it all goes tits up later, so be it. It’s not so much as a change of owner but the beginning of removing a despot regime that fills me with relief.

It was the plastic pink pig throwing that tipped them over the edge.2

Probably because most knew the Spivs were out of money, however we had been quite successful football wise under them and hoped that someone would build on that and didn’t expect them to destroy it. Of course you are right but the starting point for new owners, if/when they arrive is quite different to then. We’re starting from scratch.newyorkaddick said:Sorry to put a dampener on things, but it's worthwhile perspective to go back to some of the threads from Dec 2013 to see how excited many of us were that the Slater/Jimenez/Cash period was behind us and a new exciting era dawned....

If any club could snatch defeat from the jaws of victory then that club would be Charlton Athletic.
Caution.

If he ends up owning the Valley will still be work to be done.2

Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.

1) He ain't gone yet.
2) It's highly debatable that he's being forced out by fan pressure anyway, it's just as likely he has just finally realized his hair brained foray into the world of football only stands to lose him money because his approach simply doesn't work. The pressure from CARD has reduced significantly this season and when it was at its peak there was virtually no sign he was going to sell up so hard to make a clear case that supporter unrest is the main driver for him selling up.5 -

Some may have been excited, others were more cautious & concerned, the writing was on the wall from his history at Standard.newyorkaddick said:Sorry to put a dampener on things, but it's worthwhile perspective to go back to some of the threads from Dec 2013 to see how excited many of us were that the Slater/Jimenez/Cash period was behind us and a new exciting era dawned....

Couldnt disagree with the last bit anymore, for someone who spent 2% of his time on Charlton there was an inordinate amount of that spent on blaming fans for this, bad mouthing fans for that and trying his utmost by spending ridiculous amounts on PR to hide their actions, (which failed, nearly every report today has mentioned fan unrest as opposed to treating it as a shock departure from football), our message got through to the wider media thats for sure.Exiled_Addick said:1) He ain't gone yet.

The first bit is quite right, 'he aint gone yet' but he is on his way and direct supporter action has played a major part in his departure.
True the in stadium protests were non existent this season but that decision was made to back the team 100% whilst acknowledging that many protesters just were not attending.
Anyway each to their own, I think we got him out, you dont but lets just enjoy a positive upturn in our clubs fortunes.18 -

There is no CARD talk, there was mass fan action through protesting both home and abroad by multiple groups.
What was embarrassing was they way our club has been run for the last four years, that looks like it may be coming to an end. Caozzi? really? Today feels like a good day to be a Charlton fan, I am not sure what tomorrow has in store but today feels pretty good.11 -
It may be that we will never know how much, if any, supporter action played in Roland's departure. However I would like to thank all those who didn't meekly lie down and accept the crap we have been fed over the last four years. So to all of those who gave their money, time and effort to get Roland and his lap dog out, thank you.SE7toSG3 said:

We will most likely never know how much the protests impacted on his decision to give up his mad scheme.
I went to Belgium in March and it without doubt pissed him off.....but the correlation between that and actually pushing him to sell is debatable.
I have never read or heard of any fan who would suggest that what they did on any particular occasion ‘forced’ him to sell.
Maybe the continued ongoing protests made him realise we weren’t going to go away and that was a prospect he wasn’t prepared to accept, particularly on his own doorstep.
Whatever some may think, many of us did our bit no matter how small or ineffective it may have seemed at the time, rather than simply sitting behind our computer screens whinging......and it certainly made us feel one hell of a lot more proud of ourselves and others with like minds, as well as the club as a whole.8 -
Talk about missing the fucking point......what part did you play in at least trying to show our/your displeasure......maybe I’m wrong but it doesn’t sound like you did a fucking thing?SE23 said:What part did the fans play? Probably meaning the Rick bloke? It's ending cos Roland is bored and not making money... Nothing else nothing more... I'm glad but all this Card talk is embarrassing.... What happens if the new owner is an ozzie and doesn't attend games? Caozzi?
We will never know how much, if anything, our actions influenced matters, maybe you are right .....but you really need to show a bit more respect for your fellow Addicks who decided to be proactive.16 -
Either way when he does go CARD and/or the Trust need to get in there first and tell the press that we did indeed force him to sell, I'm sure Roland will like that
