One of the worst memories though recently has to be the Southampton game where we lost 1-0.
Wasnt the match that made it a bad memory, more the arriving at Fleet Services on the coach to find the BBC on covering that epic Tsunami out in Asia... Know its a different scenario to the Twin Towers but its one of those occasions where I'll never forget where I was
Darren Randolph's finest moment.
That act arguably played a large part to decide his battle with Elliot for the position of first choice keeper at that time.
Playing Chelsea away day after BOXING day 1975. My first ever win against my boyhood team 2-3 Phil Warmen scoring the first and then Killer getting two. Peter Bonetti still one of the best english goalkeepers of his time.Went with old school friend and his dad Les can still see the smiles on our faces coming away from Stamford Bridge with 2 points in the bag.
Time passes on, but last week Portsmouth was still with him after the match in Charlton having a beer together.

Was in the Shed that day....old mate of mine is Warman's nephew.
Sunday 28th December 2003 was when we beat Spurs 1-0 thanks to the Carlton Cole header
The reverse fixture in February saw us losing 3-0, only to make it 3-2 with 10-mins to go before some prick of a Spurs kid called Johnnie Jackson scored their winner

I was at that game. I'd got the scarf with all the players photo's on it for Christmas. Every time we scored we got attacked. Chelsea team full of star names and were all over us but Kiiller only needed two sights at goal to win it.
I remember going Southend on Boxing Day in the late nineties when the ref belly laughed when he heard someone shout out that he must have over done it the previous day. Rare ref/fan interaction!

My first ever away game, at Palace on Boxing Day 1982. Drew 1 1 after being behind.
That was the day Steve Gritt took over in goal as I remember, late equaliser from us?
No mate, we lost the game that Gritty played in goal.
Tony Lange broke his ankle, IIRC.
Think he did mate. We also played in a palace kit over there one Boxing Day (the white one with the stripes) as there was some problem with the kit clashing or being forgotten.
We are traditionally so shit at Christmas it's hard to recall anything better than the 4-2 against the Pensioners. That was very good though. I had a Chelsea mate sat next to me in the East. He was apprehensive before the game and sat with his head in his hands for most of it.
I have to say that (other than the odd occasion), we have a pretty forlorn Boxing Day record. As such I cannot really add much to the original question, so forgive me for changing it slightly. This also includes the worst team performance I have ever seen from a Charlton side. Away to Wimbledon.....I think we lost 3-1........truly abysmal particularly as I had got up early and driven back from The East Midlands to watch the most soulless pile of shyte I have ever seen!
Surely that's been surpassed in the last couple of years!
Finding out Alan Pardew had replaced the beleaguered Les Reed. I remember where I was and rushed home to post on here that there really was a Father Christmas.
Yes this seemed like good news at the time. Who could possibly have foreseen what happened next.
For some reason 83 season played Portsmouth away lost 4-0.We met at the Yorkshire Grey for the coach and the coach window got put through on the way back by a couple of Pompey. The game was on the 26th but the real buzz was all talking about playing Palace a couple of days later at home and guess what we lost that but was a fun day.
Thinking about it the palace game at home was on the 27th the day after the Portsmouth game.
Can't remember ever playing on 2 consecutive days before.
The year we finished third behind Derby and Palarse, we beat Cardiff and Middlesborough on Good Friday and the Saturday, then played Easter Monday too.

The journey home was magic.

Wonder what happened to him!!
