Poor attendance, and it really highlights where we are as a club now. I imagine their will be a small increase when he sells, but I cant see it being higher than 1k.

My short term hope is that the Belgium guy sales, we stay competitive in the top 6, and the Blackburn match in May is still important for both clubs. Hopefully, this can be our first real chance to see how many supports will attend on a big match day.

I wouldn't be too pessimistic for the medium term, personally. People rely too much on "I know Fred and Bob will never go again," when in reality Fred will change his mind and will also bring his mate Joe.
Airman, that's very Bobist you know
Agreed. I WILL go again - just not in sterile hospitality in the West Stand where I felt embarrassed every time I swore (didn't stop me though!).
you're welcome to swear on my row bob. we're not all bovril swigging comfort blanket types
Thanks, but I'll stick to the cupboard end.
  • only bradford and pompey get a higher average attendance of over 11,000 that another thing that depresses me with this league 1/4 full grounds.

We are 15th in terms of occupation, with 40% of our capacity occupied. Pompey's crowds are pretty impressive, averaging over 17000, with 85% occupancy. I'm not aware that they've sold cheap season tickets either (which is what Bradford have done).

It should be said, with no judgement made about the wisdom of the approach, that Bradford's actual crowds are nowhere near their published ones.

I'd politely ask you to stop banding my family's names about in such a willy nilly fashion.

I spoke to Grandad Fred after the game on Saturday and he said he'll consider coming back when Uncle Bob and our long lost cousin Joseph return.

Interesting. I guess with really cheap season tickets, there will be plenty of people buying one but picking and choosing their matches to actually attend

I notice that in the FA Cup they got less than 5000 for their game vs Plymouth
  • I think the Club showed themselves in their true colours making it a Gold game and the price of the commemorative shirt , they just want to squeeze what they can out of the dwindling fan base.
  • Roland's ground is too big for his team.

Really, not even the 31 year man? I always have this picture in my mind of a senior citizen. Anyway what's wrong with bovril and a blanket?
He can get massively animated - Bradford at home last season he had a melt down

Threw his football league paper down the west lower concourse after Bradford equalised just before half time
  • On the basis that the home crowd was probably not price sensitive and, clearly, the away attendance wasn't it makes sense to ramp the prices us.

It's clear that there is so little respect for the SMT that they were always going to be criticised for how they handled so this day they might as well make some money doing it.

I'm sure that was the logic and as we will never know what the gate would have been if they'd charged half the price we will never know if they were successful in making more money or not.

They said they would give 25% of the net home ticket price to CACT, so they had the worst of both worlds, lost some price sensitive individuals and didn't get the benefit of the extra money. There's a small surplus from charging the circa 3,000 Pompey in the JS Stand an extra £3/4 but after concessions and VAT it's probably only worth about £5-6k and there are extra stewarding and police costs to cater for a larger away crowd (which they'd have to pay regardless).

I spoke to one regular who decided not to go because they had put the prices up, although that person eventually got a free ticket so did go.

As usual, at least one person on the SMT was predicting a 20k crowd, which was always impossible at full price based on any detailed understanding of the numbers. It's really not difficult to understand how these things work if you have the historic figures.
Maybe they should look to employ someone that has that knowledge and understanding. If only we could find someone......

  • It is neither good nor bad, it just is. That said, the fact that they couldn't pack the place for an anniversary match against one of the better supported teams in the division is (like lots of other things) a ringing indictment of just how awful this regime is.

    I am optimistic.
I think when, please God, Duchatelet and Meire are gone there will be a significant surge in season ticket and match day sales. Sponsors will return, and then there are all the ancillary benefits such as retail sales, programmes, lottery tickets, refreshments etc. Many of those still going are not spending any additional money in protest.

How many people are actually boycotting, as in "I really want to go, but won't until they've left, and then I'll definitely be back, even if we are midtable in L1 and playing Rochdale on a Tuesday night in February"?

    1000?
    2000?
  • The Valley should have been sold out for this fixture. The fact that the home fans' areas were only half full is a damning indictment of the present ownership.

    My thoughts exactly.
  • the way i see it was i spent

£23 on a ticket, £4 on a beer so thats £27 they have had off me and realistically will probably go another 3/4 games this season.

on average i used to do 12/14 home games a season and 10 plus aways so instead of £130 they could of had much more, but there shitbags so swings and roundabouts.
  • Poor crowd but until he sells up and hopefully somebody better arrives that's how it is. Only the hardcore are really bothered about 25 year return - him gone, a promotion followed by serious intent in the championship and a relegation or 2 from millwall palace and West Ham and we might get the place full again

Fewer, I reckon. If he'd sold up after a couple of years I think it would have been a lot easier to get everyone back, but people move on.
