Words by him and Jacko at the end were likely pre-prepared but i heard them and thought of the last manager i had been to see at a similar event... Pardew - he just would not have even thought to bother saying most of what KR and JJ said tonight, let alone the last bit.
Both came across really well. Good evening. thanks for organising.6 -
On the Holmes free kicks Jacko was clear that for Ricky he likes free kicks that are in specific positions and specific distances from the goal, down to a margin of half a yard or so.5
-
Really enjoyed that.
Thought Karl came across really well. Would love him to get us up this year, reckon he'd be great in celebration mode.
Not been to one of these before so don't know if it's the done thing but thought the pub laying on some food for free was really nice even if he is an addick himself.17 -
Thanks to those who organised. Both JJ and KR came across well.
JJ’s passion and understanding for the club is clear and KR committed himself to bringing the team and the fans back together. An encouraging evening.2 -
Be interesting to know if Jacko has an opinion on the protests etc? Did it come up?0
-
He said he appreciated and noticed the fact that whenever we protested we were always still very supportive of him and the other players.cantersaddick said:Be interesting to know if Jacko has an opinion on the protests etc? Did it come up?
Someone quite rightly put it that he will go down as one of the great legends of our club.25 -
As always, very nice to meet so many posters from here. Really enjoyed meeting a few people for the first time.
Many Thanks to @razil for organising, equal thanks to @SE7toSG3 for hosting, introducing and setting the tone for 'being Charlton' so well, and thanks to Robbo and Jacko for being two great guests. Spoilt really as Jacko would have been great on his own but understandably played second fiddle to the manager13 -
Hopefully whenever any of the anti-CARD lot push out their tripe about "getting behind the team" they'll be reminded of this.Leeds_Addick said:

A part of me is starting to feel like we're putting all of that behind us. Hopefully that will be certain in a few weeks with a new owner.cafctom said:

Excellent evening and although I had no strong feelings either way previously about KR, now sold on the guy. Sincere I think and sees things from a fans perspective. JJ is JJ - a top man, so thanks to all for arranging it. Was also good to put names to a few CL code names!4
-
I wasn't really aware how much Barnie put in to it all and didn't thank him...so thanks Barnie for organising a great event.0
-
The fat half Chinese bloke sat on the floor and who asked the first question was me by the way.
As for the evening, Karl treated every question with respect (including mine lol), and they were generous in sharing opinions and inside info with us.
The speech he ended the night with was a bit forced or rehearsed in my opinion, but they both seemed invested in Charlton tbf.
Was good to briefly meet a few lifers!6 -
As a boycoter I feel slighly guilty as he came across well. If Roland had come onboard in July 2017 there can be few complaints about how we are managed now. Perhaps Novak but that may be down to KR rather than them.2
-
Happened to get along more out of luck than judgment. Very enjoyable in catching up with the old crew (you know who you are) but also meeting for the first time with @PaddyP17, @AshBurton and @1905 plus anyone I've forgotten (sorry, red wine ...)
Impressed with KR as a football man, which is high praise for now.
I did collar Tom Rubashow for a while...well, someone had to.
Excellent evening of chat all round. Huge thanks to @razil and the (Addick) landlord.6 -
Sleep now will post a proper round up in the morning and therefore artificially postpone my return to work
Brb lol great to meet a few of you xoxo3 -
Someone should have sent Henry there , we’d have had a decent early write up to get our juices flowing with more to follow .
Seems this lot were prolly just pissed and can’t remember f all13 -
Was the speech at the end similar to that given at Bromley Addicks? @AFKABartram or anyone0
-
Dont recall, no one was taking notes and we were all too pissed to remember.Henry Irving said:Was the speech at the end similar to that given at Bromley Addicks? @AFKABartram or anyone

some bits seemed a bit scripted, two that spring to mind were roland watches every game and all he asked karl to do was please the people, karl was funny in parts, and had a brief chat with him after outside and tbh i've changed my opinion on him, before thought he was a bit of a prick but seems like a nice genuine bloke that genuinely wants the best for the club. also liked when asked about millwall getting relegated/staying in championship he replied i couldnt give a fuck, the only question i didnt hear asked which i would of liked to have known the answer is ventokele, karl says he wants 2 strikers, a big one and a small one, so why not bring back ventokele?.7

A few key things of note I remember are....
1. Aribo & KAG need games and could go on loan in Jan (if replacements that improve us are found).
2. Ben Amos well respected by the squad and always first in & last out of training.
3. Due to having the smallest squad (height wise) in the league Karl would like to add more height and power (CL height test not referenced).
4. Konsa is ready/good enough for a step up but Karl would like him back on loan (if he were to move) as players his age rarely play in the prem.
5. Ricky Holmes never wanted to leave and is one of a bunch of players who JJ and KR believe are good enough to play at a higher level.
6. KR also referenced a couple of past transfer targets - one at Arsenal, one at west ham I think (but I wasn't familiar with either and well oiled by this point). Someone else can fill in the details on those.
7. Naby Sarr could have came back and sulked but has knuckled down, never complained about not being a starter and given KR a selection headache. Bowyer is conviced he can do a job up front as his finishing and technical ability is great for a big guy (I would personally like to see him given a go at Swansea in the cup).12 -
also thanks for arranging, the food was a nice touch so hopefully we put a bit of money behind the bar, only thing i think is next time we may need a bigger room!.0
-
only other things of note were;
karl would like to get to round 3 of the fa cup because he loves the competition and would like to give the fans a big day, asked what would happen to the revenue from a said big game, he replied it gives me a bit more clout when i go asking for money in the transfer window.2 -
They'll be having a meeting about Leon Best this week. My impression was that KR was impressed by his performance at QPR on Friday.
We enquired last Jan about Fosu and KR personally watched him 4-5 times.
Ben Reeves was waiting to see if he could get a move to a lower La Liga team but when that didn't materialise he also turned down approaches/offers from a couple of Championship clubs to come to Charlton.
Jacko said that Ricky Holmes never wanted to leave in the summer.
Jacko served someone a pint of Amstel in the downstairs bar.7 -
8. Karl was at MK Dons on Sat and see's them, Wigan, Blackburn, Rotherham & Bradford as the real contenders in the league.
9. Really wanted it to work with Tony Watt. JJ encouraged KR to call him back last year....but ultimately gd matchday performances just werent there last year.
10. Despite peoples views (which everyone is entitled to) roland is a bit like an 'ideal wife' & just lets Karl get on with it.
That's enough from me......I was too focused on munching through the food platters to take in anything else.

KR said at Bromley that he didn't know is Igor wanted to be at Charlton as he'd never spoken to him. Seemed a subject he didn't want to go into anymore detail on.palarsehater said:some bits seemed a bit scripted, two that spring to mind were roland watches every game and all he asked karl to do was please the people, karl was funny in parts, and had a brief chat with him after outside and tbh i've changed my opinion on him, before thought he was a bit of a prick but seems like a nice genuine bloke that genuinely wants the best for the club. also liked when asked about millwall getting relegated/staying in championship he replied i couldnt give a fuck, the only question i didnt hear asked which i would of liked to have known the answer is ventokele, karl says he wants 2 strikers, a big one and a small one, so why not bring back ventokele?.

He did say that when he saw that banner at Wimbledon last year he thought his wife must be in the crowd.12
