Total shock when I saw this. Cirrhosis of the liver according to The Mail (if it's in the Mail it could be totally untrue of course). I'd forgotten about him as Eileen Grimshaw's love interest in Corrie, preferring to remember his funny side.

Really shocked by this - no age to die at. Saw his stand up when he was starting out and he was very funny.

Only comedian I ever heckled. Back in 89 in the Red Rose Club. Saturday night and I'd gone there straight after football. He started eulogising Palace and before I could stop myself, I yelled out that Selhurst was a shitehole and Charlton couldn't wait to get back to The Valley. He could have ripped me to bits but instead said let's both laugh at the Gooner in a replica shirt.
