It will be interesting to see if as a result of CARDs statement Katrien emerges from her bunker.
  • Given the funds I could see him being successful. I don't know how successful, but that would be for him to show us. Given the opportunity.

Good statement...no one can say we/CARD don't support the team/management...it's what we have at this time...so 100%
Want us to play well, win well, even lose playing well, but ultimately want us get out of this league...hopefully upwards,but...

    I'm still a boycotter...Roland goes,I go...!!!,

Too busy packing her bags ... with luck !
  • Let's say we get promoted.....where has that actually got us?
Success......what bloody success....... four seasons to (possibly), simply get back to where we f'ing started and with all the diabolical grief and loss of faith and fans along the way.
Yes, it's good to see the team doing well but we're in a shyte league where we shouldn't be in the first place!!!!!!
Even if we are promoted how can anyone with an ounce of brain honestly call it SUCCESS.....we'll have simply stood still for four, best forgotten, years!
The Valley is sadly toxic and needs decontaminating.

Also, assuming we did get back up, I severely doubt that Roland would do anything to ensure that we could meaningfully compete at a higher level
    ^This.

The apologists will call it `success' cos lets be honest, they have to desperately cling to anything deemed as `positive' that comes out of the club be it on or off the field cos these sort of developments have been so few and far between since RD took control. And even then they'll manipulate and distort/spin the situation to `big it up' as best they can. The general trajectory of the clubs fortunes has been downward since Jan 2014 and that is indisputable despite a pitifully small number of fans claiming the digging of a large trench at the training ground being cause for celebration. A perfect example of this kind of mentality was on the forum of the damned/banned* a couple of months ago when a very limited news item appeared online stating that the club had purchased a `new state of the art/hi-tech machine' for the clubs recovery/medical department. Thats about as far as it went regarding the actual technical details that were disclosed about said `machine', it was/is `state of the art' and`hi-tech'...but that was enough to get the 8 regular posters dancing a virtual jig of delight and claiming it as vindication of RD progressive stewardship. They appear to be very easily pleased over that side of the fence which maybe tells you something, between the lines, about the average clientele over there.

For what its worth I personally don't think we've got a cat in hells chance of getting promotion this season. KR might be the `best' manager, excluding Rigas first tenure (why RD didn't keep him on from that point was simply staggering imo), we've had regarding results/stability in the last 3 years but look where we are and what he was up against previously and what we're currently up against now. We're mid table League One, alllll dayyyy long....and I for one think that is KRs natural level. I see nothing in him, his general character, intellect, common sense, his media savvy persona/charisma, his footballing tactical scope and ability etc to suggest he can reach any further. Certainly not on a consistent basis anyway. He will have fleeting periods of `success' within a season but they will be due more to luck and the law of averages than judgement. Thats not dishing out personal abuse at him before the vinegar drinking apologists throw a hissy fit in my direction. I'm not calling him Gobinson, Knobinson, Tarbie or even a thick fat scouse twat playing the deep thinking intellectual football man. I'm saying, as far as managers go, I personally think hes crap. Certainly not good enough for my club and what I want my club to aspire too.

We have a great (for league one) team if we have an all fit starting 11, all on top of their respective games with luck going our way blah blah....but scratch below the surface and the cruel mask of reality reveals itself. We have a paper thin squad, pitifully lacking in certain areas, and a manager already at his glass ceiling regarding tactical dexterity and adaptability. We have a start set-up/formation of play. Any team/manager we face that can see the threat and has the ability to negate/nullify the threat can turn us over/thwart us. Many fans have expressed the concern that we don't have a Plan B. Of course its a generic term for a team being adaptable to the changing landscape within a match. Robinson hasn't the footballing intelligence/scope to factor in different modes of play within our team depending on the opposition.

I'm staring down the barrel of being 50 years of age this year. Over the last 10 years or so, the stark realization of life, and maybe taking things a bit more seriously in my own job, has brought into focus to me the fact that the vast majority of people are in jobs/careers that they really shouldn't be in. They just found themselves in their respective positions and now have to plough on regardless. Its all they know and have learnt enough to get by, it pays the bills etc. The dye is cast and as it affords them enough to function in society they'll continue and make the best of their respective paths until retirement.
Karl Robinson is one of those such blokes. Hes a `football manager' by his job description and role.....but in reality hes just a bloke that works in football. Hes a mid table League One `manager'. Good luck to him and all that.....I just don't want him managing at my club thank you very much. I want and expect more than he offers.

All you KR fans/acceptors, ask yourself this question....sod the fact hes English, sod all the `passion' he shows on the touchline throwing his arms in the air and periodically getting a cob on, saying how much he cares and enjoys driving into Sparrows Lane everyday regarding the `challenge' whilst regurgitated hollow soundbites about finding and restoring the clubs `DNA' etc (where the fuck has he heard that line from?? Cos its certainly not his)....could you seriously see him, even given the funds at his disposal, to stage such an attempt, mount a serious club/regime supported push for advancement from the Championship to the Premier League?

    No, nor can I.
    .

Hmm. Not sure he's as bad as you say. Seems to me, having sat through so much dross last season, that certainly until the Wigan match he's been slowly turning the team round. The first 30 mins at Oldham was the best I've seen Charlton play in the last couple of years, by some way. The Wigan match showed that it's still a work in progress, and he does need to learn to switch things about, tactically, during a match where it's not going our way.
But had we beaten Gillingham you may not have written that post, not yet at any rate.

So long as the progress continues, I won't be joining for the calls to sack yet another manager.

Agreed, who knows how far somebody can go. You look at some of the PL clubs where teams have glaring weaknesses yet the manager seems incapable of doing anything about it, e.g Arsenal and Liverpool with their defensive frailties, Pep with his bizarre attitude to goalkeepers last season or Mourinho falling out with his players two seasons ago...

    I checked Pardew's record, he's managed 801 games...

  • So that's finally cleared up. You CAN support the team and not the regime.

  • Yes, we need another trip to Belgium soon I think. But we also need to support the team. We have a slim chance of the play offs this season so it makes sense to get behind the team.

Always Black & White (is what I told Hummel our change colours should be and they agreed. new away kit is fantastic)
  • I always think Robinson speaks pretty well on this, he is obviously restricted in what he can say but always say the right things IMO
  • POSITIVITY

Admirable sentiments of course, but I don't remember the statements saying anything of the sort.
Other than not protesting games so as not to impact the promotion push.
    Did I miss something?
