Yep, I remember making remore-controlled aircraft and using this stuff called dope on the paper covering the wings and fuselage to stiffen the paper. It was some kind of resin, IIRC.limeygent said:I think, way back when, it was used to describe the coating used on the fabric of old aeroplanes.

Sure, it's been used to refer to drugs since the 19th century - opium first, cannabis later. It made the leap to an adjective meaning good or excellent in the 80s which is what the OP was referring toSoundAsa£ said:
