Always good to face higher league opposition pre-season to test ourselves. Town fans will be disappointed of course.

But Mick Mc lives close by so it's easier for him.

And he's often in touch with people at Charlton
He'll be sacked by then though!

They ended up just 4 points above the relegation spots, and scored 48 goals in 46 matches, so expect a high scoring thriller at The Valley...

  • I have never been to a home friendly before. Been to about 10 away ones for first team or under 23s. These are always non-league grounds. Can't see the appeal of home friendlys.
  • The 2016/17 season is yet to finish but yet we announce pre-season friendly for 2017/18. I'd better start my Christmas shopping this weekend.
  • been to 1 home against west ham a few years back as something to do on a saturday
  • Can't see the appeal of home games.

    fixed it for you

I think our season finished around February time.
  • Better get down there and start the queue now! This'll be a sellout...

So we arranged a friendly game because their manager lives close to Charlton. You know what that actually wouldn't surprise me with these freaks in charge.
As long as we don't hire him because he lives close!

  • The need for home friendlies is to get the new players to know the pitch and how to avoid smoke bombs.
  • All credit to Katrien, Tony, Thomas etc who managed to pull this off.
  • Any new on the Staprix cup yet? That's the one I'm looking forward to
  • Just goes to show that we're still a draw for the bigger clubs. They all want to play us. Bring it on ...

Do people actually care about the pre-season results?

They're bloody there for match fitness NOTHING more - We have this argument every summer about the opposition when it doesnt matter who we face because the results dont matter, even when had Curbs and Powell as Manager we had shite friendly opponents!!

Yeah sorry that as well but why do we need to play expert opponents to put those aspects into practice?

I would guess because if you play only teams that are a long way behind your technical ability it's no test of those aspects.

There is an obvious gap in that schedule - July 22nd, for example - and I expect they would be looking to play someone better than Dover and the previous opposition in it.

  • Probably a local league two team away on the Saturday 22nd July

No insider knowledge but guessing it will be Crawley.
