Laurie Evans is making his debut for Dartford in the second tier of the KCL today at Leeds & Broomfield which isn't the biggest of grounds even by club standards. Perhaps the right day for a Leeds & Broomfield bowler to pull up lame in the warm up!

Dartford money backfired today.. nearly a 300 run defeat

Two of the contenders for promotion to the Premier League, Bickley Park and Sevenoaks Vine, met in what turned out to be probably one of the best games of club cricket I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing.
Vine won the toss and elected to bat - former England opener, Nick Compton, helped himself to 111 ably supported by Evert Bekker (75) and Luke Schlemmer (40) as the Vine posted 271-3. Despite that, there was, perhaps, just a bit of a feeling that, having been on 152-0 with almost 20 overs still to go, the chase might have been even more daunting for Bickley.
Following an early loss, Saf Imtiaz (29) and Elliot Hooper (64) took the score to 91. All of the BP batting line up then chipped in but steadily lost wickets in doing so until the 9th wicket fell with the score on 243 and Bickley still needing 29 to win. Step forward the Bickley number 9, Shehre Zeb (53*), who succeeded in taking the game to the final over with 5 still to win. A dot, then a boundary followed by another one from Zeb and Bickley were home. What a game!
Gravesend fielding a decent side in Division 1 . Sikander , Paul and Lee can’t be cheap.
It never ceases to amaze me that teams manage to secure players of a certain calibre to play in the third tier of the KCL but haven't, as Gravesend had yesterday, anyone to score and they were at home too. With the ECB's drive to have everything "live scored" and preferably streamed too, a scorer doing the job on his own might have to do the job manually (it is usual for one of the two scorers to do that in case the technology stops and two people can't do it on Play Cricket at the same time) and do it on Play Cricket and operate the scoreboard and ensure that the live stream is fully operational.
Clubs have had seven months to source, if necessary train someone up to do the scoring and if required offer something by way of an enticement to do so.
Not that I get involved in scoring (can’t concentrate enough for that, two 3 ball overs couple of years ago 🤦♂️ too busy talking shit) I’ll do umpiring instead . Our lot have struggled a bit with play cricket , simple enough as it is but apparently their servers or whatever it is are out of date , just maybe the ECB can put some of their new found wealth to good use .
Yesterday ones set 191 all out in 42.3 overs and Great Waltham were getting to it comfortably and needed 10 off 5 overs with 4 wickets left before 4 wickets in 7 balls left them 7 short !
Our twos chasing 185 looked well set to cruise it but the last 7 batsmen contributed 28 runs for 6 wickets and we fell 18 short with 13 balls left .. fear not I’ll be available again next week , heavier than ever , having dropped a catch last week , I never drop catches unless my eyes are gone and they have a bit now , eye surgery wearing off (I was too old and warned it wouldn’t last too long , next stop maybe contact lenses ) couldn’t play yesterday

Someone you used to play football with probably a long time ago turned up yesterday to watch part of the Bickley game. There's me thoroughly content with sitting on the sidelines whilst both you and him both put me thoroughly shame. He's 66, recently had a hip replacement and yet last week came back from opening the batting on a cricket tour. He did say, though, that early on in the tour he turned to take a second run in only to realise that whilst the mind was willing the body wasn't!
had the honour of captaining the first ever fifth eleven that Kings Langley CC has put out in more than 189 years of existence.
My 12-year old bowled 8 very decent for 0-30 while the other opening bowler’s mixed bag got him 8-40!
Chasing 136 to win we were 43-3 when I went in and hit a nice 51 not out to see us home.
Hoping we both get promoted to the 4s next week!
Good to hear clubs putting more sides out than closing them. I hear the Vines 4s have pulled out of the league, which is a bit of a shame for a club who have multiple county players and an England International in their ranks.
Bickley Park travelled to Folkestone and managed to land the spoils by the relatively close margin of 14 runs.
Bickley were put into bat and given that they were 100-1 off 20 overs, they really should have mustered more than their 233-7 off 50. Despite Folkestone being 64-1 off 10 overs, Bickley were always in a reasonable amount of control or until such time as they took their foot off Folkestone's throat in an attempt to give a couple of players who hadn't had an opportunity to do much a bowl anyway. Eventually, Folkestone were 216 all out with 8 balls to go. A special mention to last man out, young Theo Coombs of Folkestone, who is in the Kent age group pathway, for a fine knock of 67 off 82 balls.
So Bickley are one of three teams that are two from two and they meet another, Whitstable, next week in what is sure to be a good game especially as their opponents scored 306-5 off 48 overs to beat Canterbury yesterday which followed their 389-7 the week before against Broadstairs.
