Keith Peacock

Unfortunately my Saturday afternoons at the Valley were over by the time Keith Peacock came on the scene. But I was able to watch some of his magic moments on the dvd "Charlton Athletic Centenary History" and listen to some of his reminiscences.
What a player. Charlton through and through.

Keith is a top man, he is "Mr Charlton".
He is respected by all that know him and I have never heard a bad word said about him.
I am lucky enough to know him personally and I am so pleased that Keith is still in and around the Club now. I can't imagine what it would be like without him there.
Happy Birthday Mr Charlton !!!!16 -

Happy Birthday Keith.
I remember seeing him come into the team, I think he would have been 17 when he made his debut, always gave his best a very good player and went on to become a very good manager as well.0 -
I'll be seeing him tomorrow and will try to askSoundAsa£ said:

From "nippy winger" to midfield dynamo, I was lucky enough to enjoy his whole Charlton playing career. During one of Keith's starring performances a friend once turned to me and said only half jokingly " if he was a foot taller he'd be Cruyff". Also a key part of Curbs management team. And nobody entered the field of play like he did. Happy birthday Keith2

I reckon that he dislikes all the Bond Villains (including odd job!!)SoundAsa£ said:

All I would say is that Keith is a true professional but I have noticed that he has aged faster over the last 3 years0 -
In the first team I ever saw. So pleased he is still around to do the hospitality, had my 45th in his suite. He deserves a wonderful day.
Happy Birthday Keith.2 -

He is my favourite Charlton legend by some way, my parents used to sit in the main stand in the sixties, and as I became hooked a player and gentleman I admire.0

Happy Birthday Keith
Surprised nothing was mentioned to him on Sunday when he presented the U23s their trophy.0 -
One of the earliest memories of watching Charlton was seeing KP going down the left wing.0

"Are you free, Captain Peacock?"
1 -
"Keefy, Keefy Peacock; Keefy Peacock on the wi-ing ....."
"We've got Peacock on the outside wing and Treacy in the middle,
When the ball's in the back of the net, you'll hear the Covered End roar!
And all you lads and lasses, with all your boots and braces,
We'll all go down the Covered End, to see the Charlton aces!"
Giving my age away there haha
Happy Birthday, Keith.

This! I used to LOVE that. Mesmerised. He never, ever, ever failed to deilver his pre-match coup de grace.Six-a-bag-of-nuts said:From "nippy winger" to midfield dynamo, I was lucky enough to enjoy his whole Charlton playing career. Now, all we need is someone who can do that at the start and the tunnel jump at the end!0 -
How did he enter the field? What did he do?2
-
When I was a kiddie back in the 60's, he used to come down to my school and give us an hours coaching. My first football hero who I have had the pleasure of meeting many times over the years, absolute legend in my eyes.2

In those days, players ran onto the pitch to start warming up a few minutes before kick off. No pre-match handshakes or any of that nonsense - the eleven players ran out, some (usually including the goalie) holding a ball. The balls would be thrown onto the pitch and the players would do a rudimentary (to today's standards) pre-match kickabout. The team would all run out together, with the captain leading the team out.Siv_in_Norfolk said:How did he enter the field? What did he do?
Whenever Keith Peacock played, he would be carrying a ball as they ran out. (In my experience he was usually the captain, but did this whether we has at the front of the team, as captain, or somewhere in the middle, if someone else was captain).
He'd run onto the pitch heading left towards the Covered End. (In those days, the tunnel was nearer the centre line). When he had got within about twenty yards of the penalty area, he'd throw the ball up and start juggling it, as he ran, with his feet, knees, head and shoulders. He'd keep this up, running at full pelt, into the penalty area. Then, as he got to within about 15 yards of the goal, he'd smash it, on the volley, into the back of the net, setting off a big cheer in the Covered End.
He'd never miss, never spill the ball, never drop down to walking pace. Superb stuff - every time!17 -
He said recently that it got harder and harder as he got older and so he felt more pressure to not miss but he said it with a smile on his face4

First saw him play when he was a boy being nurtured by Eddie Firmani .. the epitome of a one club loyalist as a player .. we'll forgive him his time managing the Kent small fry and working for his friend St Llewellyn at the Hammers0

He predates Curbs at West Ham, as he was actually brought there by Pardew!Lincsaddick said:First saw him play when he was a boy being nurtured by Eddie Firmani .. the epitome of a one club loyalist as a player .. we'll forgive him his time managing the Kent small fry and working for his friend St Llewellyn at the Hammers
