What a f‘ing insult on all the creativity that’s kept this thread top of the pops. And the pain and tears that’s ebbed and flowed since the infamous word of “imminent” fell into the CL lexicon of life as we once knew it. Who can ever forget the house analogy in calculating the sale of the club. I’m sure in years to come some dirty neck Student will write a thesis on this very subject to earn a top degree and then end up running the Bank of England. And what about the education on the many types of fish in our oceans? i could go on and on and on and on and on and on and on but I won’t. This thread is a font of all knowledge and worth every Gigabyte on your servers.
Love and Peace and Roland out!
I suspect when mankind has run its course in the great evolutionary diary, that aliens will one day descend on this planet to investigate, and they will find traces of this thread as being the last vestiges of human life, and they will weep copious alien tears that they were not about when all the fish puns were created, and when cardigans were discussed openly without shame or embarrassment. And we can know that we WERE there when this miracle of creation came to be.
Maybe a bit over the top, but be fair, some of those fish puns were world class
The whole takeover saga defies any logic mainly because it’s based on minuscule amounts of information and massive amounts of speculation - at least the regurgitation loop seems to have ceased - for now
I think it’s fair to say RD was always sceptical about the Aussies - he made that clear - but even if they might have been useful to him, the idea that he or people working for him planted the stories about them is laughable. Apart from anything else Gerard Murphy spoke directly to journalists on multiple occasions to my knowledge, so did Keith Harris. There were numerous process leaks that didn’t come from The Valley or anyone with an interest in putting out lines for RD.
Leaks? Keith Harris must feel orville about that. I hope he wont duck his responsibilities. He could end up with a very large bill.
I think it all comes done to the valuation which only ever made sense for accountancy purposes and never related to a realistic sale value. Sadly the owner is too dumb/stubborn to realise this.
At the same time I have a hunch that the Aussies were always speculative buyers and couldn’t put an effective consortium together but clung on hoping RD would get desperate.
The worry is that their ‘interest’ reinforced the first point.

The fact they never went away - and indeed appeared to get close to a deal - was down to GM, who was fronting a shifting consortium of investors. Andrew Muir was his credible constant.
Whether GM would have delivered a stable ownership is an open question, but the fact RD has alienated a string of substantial potential buyers really removes it as an issue of interest. Ultimately none of the people who have wanted to buy the club have been able to get RD to co-operate with a deal.
Sooner or later he will probably find himself surveying the wreckage of what Bowyer has created and telling anyone who will listen that the latest failure is done to disloyalty, supporters, the EFL or possibly Brexit. In fact, it will be all his own work.
Very insightful thanks AB. A shifting consortium of investors doesn't fill me with confidence that the shift wouldn't have ended if the deal had happened. Stable financial backing is the one string RD has in his bow but that's his only string, he still has to go.
We know he won’t, but if he gave Bowyer a 10-15m war chest in Jan, and we got promoted, would people still want him out? i know he’s a C!!t but he could afford to keep us in the premier. could bowyer become as infectious to him as he has to us! rekindle his football interest? Thoughts?

Okay Mr Owner, so you've failed at selling the club. Not a biggie - you've tasted failure before. However, out of the jaws of defeat comes the opportunity for a victory even you can't possibly have seen coming. You could literally double your money by letting the Manager know today that you will back him to the tune of £50 million in January to get the club promoted, and to build a squad with a chance of staying in the Prem.
This is a once-off opportunity that I'm sure someone with your Trump-like wisdom will seize.
Or, you could simply take that £50 million and divide it up between your 50 biggest critics on here and we'll stop saying nasty things about you.
Henry a question for you ,how can Sunderland get a £10m investment but the people behind it don't get any shares in the club?.
There's no guessing what drives these decisions. Some dreamer loaned an orange cnut croydon football poser smthn like £20M for a period of time. Slimey is on record as saying he expected the lender just to roll it over at the end of the term, cos they had no way of paying it back, they'd blown it on transfers and wages etc. That lender insisted the terms of the loan were observed which ultimately led to new owners in the shithouse board room. There's no guarantee shares will be worth anything at any point in the future, in 3rd division football it's near enough guaranteed they're permanently worthless. No - he won't and we won't...why? Well, we'd be royally pissed off with him as usual if he spent £50m as we'd get a 10-12 points fine from the EFL for busting FFP! Let's keep it real folks, even if he did fancy his chances he can only splash £10-£12m otherwise he's cutting his own throat again!

With Gallen and Bowyer £10 OR £12 million would probably be enough. They are magicians.

Think it would be fine if it was equity capital rather than a loan and used to buy players and not used to inflate player wages beyond FFP limits on income v expenses.

Dont think it even needs that sort of money. Realistically we probably only need another 2 or 3 players. Another striker - either Toney or someone to replace Leko & cover for Cullen if he goes back to W Ham & cover at left back.
£6-8m tops. Gallen is a superhero & knows where the talent is.

But you can't do that in the Championship. You can in league 1 but we got promoted,, rremember!

Trouble is you spend £6-8m on a couple of decent players, you have to pay them well. Then Taylor wants the same or more; other players want more; clubs loaning you players want a fee. Suddenly your £6-8m is £15m and you turnover is only £13m a year and you are back to losing money hand over fist. Championship footy is broken. Badly.

However bad Roland has been, I don't think gambling 50m in that way would make everything right for the club itself in the long run. Look at the ruins that are Bolton, Bury et al.
You might think the mega rich like Abramovich are happy to spunk their money away, but I bet very few of them actually lose their own cash in the long run.
If Roland did want to earn a bit of kudos from the fans (which he probably doesn't, based on his record so far) then he'd easily get it by just giving Bowyer a few quid to bring in a few extra faces in January and sort out long term contracts for those already at the club who are showing great commitment at the moment.
Comments
- an actual deal was put to Roland in recent months which he has rejected?
- what the high level details of that deal were?
I hope he wont duck his responsibilities.
