Enjoyed the game - helped enormously by the result. It's the rare days like this that keep me going. Was exciting at times and they played like they meant it. Will always support the team - really hope 'they' go soon but it won't stop me enjoying the odd day like this!
Total relief. So nice to enjoy and relax this evening. Mind you, Coventry will be tough, something of a resurgence under Mark Robins. Not out of it yet as this team cannot be trusted.
First game since Millwall and surprised to see such spirit from the players from what I've read of the games inbetween. Hard working performance with no great quality.
An uplifted Fanny tonight (!) due to a decent performance, 3 much needed points and the sight of those irrepressible Upbeats running around the pitch at half time.
A sunny Spring afternoon, a couple of glasses of rose and chatting with several "old" faces before the match helped too and if I closed my eyes, it would have been almost possible to believe we had our Charlton back.
THIS is what we have to look forward to & why we must keep keeping on.
( Mind you, I'm guessing the latest VOTV 's front cover is pinned to the wall over on the Dark Side & by now has been all but obliterated by some well directed darts...)
I wasn't at the game, so I followed on here, saw the goal we conceded on Twitter and checked the post-match stats on the BBC Sport site.
Possession 48-52 Shots 6-13 Shots on target 2-6
There are times in the past when I would have been punching the air at a 2-1 win with stats like that. But the fact is, we've failed to dominate possession at home; we've conceded twice as many shots as our opponents; and we won because their keeper failed to save any shot we had on target.
It's great to win. But stats like that confirm the fact we are totally directionless. And, with our best player (in my opinion) out injured, we look very likely to finish lower than we've ever done, since we joined the League, between the wars.
So, thank you Roland. Not only have you ruined ever aspect of the club from top to bottom, you've actually taken away the only pleasure left: gleaning some joy out of Charlton winning.
Stats can be misleading. We were the better team, deserved the win & 2-1 was a fair score.
I'm not sure where that performance came from. We looked like a proper team, organised and hard working. Oh what joy.
A better performance than Tuesday, but than again that wouldn't have been hard. Southend were poor & I can only assume that Ranger & Wordsworth have been carrying them all season & without them they looked a mid table team at best. Holmes (again) looked a class apart & Solly also was back to his best. Cant fathom the formation(s) and if we are going to play with Big Josh up front on his own then best not pump high balls him that he cant control. shocking tactics.
Really nice to buck the trend of having had a dodgy Tuesday at homme to have a good Saturday at home. We battled hard and had to soak a little pressure. But overall deserved the win.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. If 'they' don't go soon, days like yesterday will be more and more the odd day out.
After last couple of showings, surprised Da Silva hasn't been utilised more. For a small guy, wins his fair share of headers.
Holmes will surely win POTY by a country mile.
I've been critical of Rudd recently, but that 1v1 save was brilliant, as I'm sure everyone in the ground thought it would hit the net.
We are playing Gillingham at home, and three of the bottom four. It won't be easy, but let's hope we finish off an awful season with some sort of pride. COYR
And next year we will be a journeyman L1 team with aspirations to play in the Championship. The fans that remain will begin to enjoy the occasional victory and will see a chance at the playoffs as success. Beating relegated Champ sides that once played in the Prem will give us bragging rights and the fans that remain will bring a few others in, some will return and the job will be complete.
I feared the worst as Southend cancelled Charlton’s lead within five minutes. However, I was pleasantly surprised that we didn’t actually rollover and in fact played with determination and a bit of professional pride - that has been missing so often this season.
The Charlton goals came courtesy of the Southend keeper who allowed Holmes shot to pass through his legs and an own goal from Southend’s Thompson. That said I thought we deserved the victory - probably more on effort on this baking hot day than anything of football prowess.
I stayed behind to clap the players off and the players seemed very pleased with themselves too … possibly a little too pleased at a rare victory and the fact that League 1 status may just have been retained ... by the skin of their teeth.
Still vaguely happy this morning, but I've been more on the threads about takeovers and meetings with KM. Priority for me is that Roland sells and takes Katrien with him.

And a kiss on the fanny, from a certain Mr. Fortune, no wonder you were uplifted!
Done the Upbeats walk, people in our group didn't go in out of principle, which Ive massive respect for and feel shit that I dropped my principles for a couple of beers. Watched the Upeats beat Brighton from the lounge. Got lured into going to the game. Went to box office to use discount £5 core from doing the walk, but got told not it had to be used the previous day. Said bye, not paying another £20+ again after Tuesday.
Chuffed team one, good few hours spent in the Oak and then the fantastic White Swan.
Up the Addicks :-)
Who makes up the rules about the discount on the tickets? Madness
Must be the same person who made the rule that the walkers had to have chilli con carne and not hot dog & chips, that they had sitting there.

I imagine it's the relief of ending the terrible run of results, and reducing the risk of relegation. Even if they're not here next season, I'm sure most players don't want a humiliating relegation on their cv.
Watching MOTD last night, it was similar with the West Ham players

Hang on, leave me out of this in case my wife looks over my shoulder and wonders what I get up to at Charlton!

If you've got it, Al,.........
Meirely (!) goes to show that those that matter in the Big Top - players, ex players, etc, even Delaware North staff we've worked with for the last 7 years - respect & support those fans that are fighting for the return of OUR club.
However, it could be that the very fit Jon decided his good deed for the afternoon would be to put a smile on one old girl's wrinkly cheek ....
First game in a long while. As already said,Southend pretty poor and we did enough. There's no guile or cleverness to our play and I always think that lies at the managers door. Unconvinced with Robinson and Solly is half the player he ever was (if that's possible!) I always thought Mcgenniss was small and spritely. Looks like he could do with shedding a few if you ask me.
First time for a while I'd been to The Valley but wanted to see a game with my elderly Dad.
I didn't have any expectations with our recent run of dreadful results and performances - but was very surprised to see a decent team performance and a hard fought win. Okay, at times the football was a bit, erm .... Third Division but at last it was evident that the team was up for it.
It does beg the question though, as to why that level of commitment often has been missing?
Despite the sparse crowd, the atmosphere towards the end willing the team on made it seem like a proper match again. We just need a properly run club, a manager who knows what he's doing and a team playing with commitment.

Firstly, whoever told Jake Forster Caskey to be a footballer needs to be found and beaten up. Secondly, Southend were nothing special and they were 6th just proves how pony this league is. MK Dons were a class apart on Tuesday and they are knocking around in mid table. Holmes was the stand out payer for us even though he makes you mad sometimes by losing the ball when there were other easier options available. There were a number of times we'd get into a decent position to create a chance and mess it up because the player held onto the ball too long. A much better performance from Tuesday but that wasn't difficult considering how shite we were. Still not convinced Karl Robinson is the right person to get us out of this league.

A few more performances like Tuesday's, and Robinson will definitely get us out of this league...
Thought we just about deserved the win. Much better performance from Tuesday. At one point I think we were 2 points off the drop zone so the win takes alot of pressure from the remaining games.
A standard 4-1-4-1 today, which must be the 28th different formation since Tarbuck arrived. It worked better than most, although Konsa wasn't suited to the role he was playing, and Crofts allows too much space in front of the centre backs in the defensive midfield role. Maginnis has a thankless task, trying to win headers and chase them himself.
I haven't seen it back yet, but I think the free header on the opposition goal was the result of a block on Konsa by the Southend player being marked by Pearce at the far post.
Anyone notice the opposition corner, where the kicker raised both arms as the signal and the opposition no.11 made a run from outside the area and arrived late beyond the far post onto a deep cross? They worked it twice in the second half and we were caught out both times.
So was the lack of organisation at corners a result of, no scouting, poor scouting, poor attention to detail, poor coaching, the players lacking the nous to read what was happening or individuals not doing their job.
Tarbuck needs to send the no.11 a drink for butchering a clear one-on-one, then failing to take the second chance. (BWP would have put that away as he did at Sheff Utd, after Harry Maguire had allowed the ball under his foot to put him clear from the halfway line).
50 points is always the initial target. It might be 52 this season. We are effectively on 51 with our goal difference.
As ever when i read one of your posts, i genuinely feel you'd be a better choice as manager than KR.
Just watched the goals. Couple of bits of proper old fashioned wing play won us the game, get half a yard and take your shot or get your cross in, don't worry about beating the fullback 3 times, just take the opening when it's there.
Great finish from Holmes, thank goodness for him otherwise we'd have been down weeks ago, and an excellent cross from Byrne. Very clumsy looking goal from JFC, or was it an og, but beggars cannot be choosers, especially so close to the end of the season.
No excuses like clever blocks from Southend players for their goal though. Just flat out crap marking with Southend players outnumbered about 2:1 in our box and still they manager to find space for a free header.
Whoever is in charge next season and whoever is in the team, if they don't fix this massive vulnerability we have to crosses and set pieces, we won't be able to have a successful season.
Which division we'll be in next season still to be decided imho. That win should make everyone's bums stop squeaking for now but it ain't over yet. One more win needed to be sure, I think.
