The bigger question

image

Clearly, Richard Latham wasn't watching the whole game!

Perhaps he had adopted the Duchatelet approach of using the match as a backdrop to business meetings and socialising and was in the bar throughout the second half so wasn't sure whether Southend had scored or not.

Anyway, the bigger question I am referring to is that I was lucky enough to have been at the Memorial Ground last November when we - or am I now meant to say Duchatelet's - Charlton Athletic won 5-1.

When the 5th goal went in a Rovers fan shouted across the segregated seat division in the old wooden stand behind the goal " we're still above you in the table."
It was true - by one point they were ahead. However, flushed with the success on the pitch I thought (but didn't voice) "not for long" especially as we had a game in hand.

Well, despite subsequently beating Bristol Rovers at home as well;
I believe I am right in saying that we have never, in the intervening period between November 22nd 2016 and the present day, been above Bristol Rovers in the table.

Need to tread cautiously here and add the caveat 'no disrespect.................' and I mean it...........but
Bristol Rovers have one of the worst (i.e antiquated) grounds I have been to and one of the few I suspect where you can still hear Beatles music on the PA pre-game). I don't know but I'll take a wild guess here that their wage bill is nowhere near that of Charlton and they were recently forced to sell their star forward to bitter rivals Bristol City.

Currently, Bristol Rovers have 54 points from 37 games whilst we have 46 from the same number of games.

With the resources at the disposal of this club...
the question is why Katrien Meire (wherever you are - on the beach or otherwise) do you think it is acceptable for you to carry on regardless with your stewardship of this club over the course of 3 years, watching its dreadful decline (literally as you look across from the director's box to the increasingly deserted East Stand).
Whilst managers have come and gone in short order, you stay securely put grinning and smiling as the club now languishes below those such as Bristol Rovers?

You once said Je me'n fous (I don't really care) about the history and traditions of Charlton Athletic.

In fact, that comment sums you up perfectly doesn't it? You just don't care do you?
