  • My heart bleeds for them.

I'm surprised he's found his way out of Toby Alderweirald's pocket!
  • Another club with silly money comes in and hoovers up one of their best players to waste away their career for the money?

    Couldn't happen to a nicer club. Karma's a bitch.
  • This is why I have fallen out of love with football....over paid prima donnas...£500k a week to play football....lets get real...I'm off walking tomorrow with a mate... it's not just Charlton...it's the whole footballl world
  • Apparently Joorabchian represents Zola... :/
  • Apparently the money being spent on these expensive foreign imports is dwarfed by the amounts being invested further down the pyramid on youth development. If (and it's a massive "if") it is invested wisely China really could be a force in world football, maybe when they are all conquering we can trade off our Zheng Zhi connection and make a fortune !
  • Sadly, the Chinese explosion will just encourage British clubs to spend even more and make it even more expensive for us punters.

  • Seen a lot of comments (mainly on twitter) about how Chinese money is ruining the game. Hardly. Firstly, there's a cap on foreigners in that league, clubs are only allowed 4 foreigners in a match day squad so the entire league can only have 64 players.

Secondly i didn't see anyone over here moaning when money (and mainly premier league money) pretty much killed Serie A and the Eredivisie. From 87-98 there was an italian or dutch side in the European cup final in 10 out of 11 years. In the 18 years since, only 5 finals have featured an Italian side and no dutch at all.

I agree, it's the crazy amounts of money in football generally are ruining it, this is just the latest example.

They can't buy a football culture. They may be able to take the odd star over there but with Ronaldo alledgely turning them down it's not going to be as easy as they think.

  • So a club has offered him more money! Not like Chelsea would act in such an underhand way! Oh wait a minute...... Scott Parker........ They can't complain - they deserve it and some!
  • Can't see another thread on this. Been dropped according to sky and hasnt trained for 3 days after being unsettled by a £30 million per year offer from a Chinese club. You have to feel for Chelsea, having a good season and that happens to them. A bit like us when we were having a good season in the PL and we lost a key player

Perhaps we'll get him on loan while he sorts himself out...

I'm having this argument/discusion with a chelsea friend of mine now. Trying my hardest to play devil's advocate but when we've had one of our own snatched by the offer of mega money it's hard. He genuinely cannot understand why Costa would do such an awful thing

Funny when a club as shitty and classless as Chelsea have disruption like this. It was all shits and giggles when Luiz went now a proper player could be snaffled it's not so funny

    Ha fucking ha chelsea

Now he knows what it was like for us when Parker went...
  • What you have read in the papers is rubbish. i was told he was sent home from training by Conte for refusing to work out in the gym after training. When he reported for training the next day Conte sent him home again and told him not to come back until he was sent for. Another player too big for his boots brought down to earth by a good manager.
  • In reality, very few of the foreign imports come here for more than money. It just stands to reason that as soon as someone offers them more they will be off.

Yeah, don't you just love it when they score and run to the 'customers' while kissing the badge?!! Then two weeks' later they get in a huff and demand a move - Payet at wet spam another example. Absolute tossers and the fans get no sympathy from me. Sooner or later the 'Premier' League will implode, and the foreign owners will sell up and fuck off - the sooner the better for me. Perhaps then we can return to the true values of the 'beautiful game' but I guess I'm living in la-la land.
  • Money money money. I'd rather earn £10k a week in the UK than £600k a week in China... It's China for god's sake.

Yes but surely you could 'suffer' that for a couple of years, knowing that your future was safe?

yeah .. but spend 6 months at 600k a week .. you can then come home and retire or have a right good bank balance and revert to 10k a week

    Is Costa's under threat?
  • Also you are comparing your home country with a foreign one. Would you choose Brazil (£10k a week) over China (£500k a week).

As soon as you travel thousands of miles across the world for money you no longer have any affiliation for where you end up.
  • Where I get disappointed, is that we're not talking about 100k PER YEAR in the UK and £1m per year in China, I'd move for that

It's people who already earn fabulous amounts of money, several millions a year, moving to an inferior league just because they can earn more money instead of playing against the best players in the world, in the main competitions

I can grudgingly understand a player leaving a club, to play in the Champions League, and who would reject the chance to play with Messi at Barcelona if given the choice? Those are footballing decisions...

You're right, you can't buy a football culture, you can however build one, in the 5 years I've been here the attitude towards football has change massively, the support for Spanish/Italian football is huge, although the EPL is getting more popular.

What exactly are you basing that on? China is a beautiful country with a diverse culture and a mostly caring, family orientated people. (once you're away from the east coast)

Probably the whole human rights thing, and the fact that it is an authoritarian state that curtails things like freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, association and religion.

The fact that there are 46 crimes that are punishable by the death penalty, and the fact that many people's trials are just held behind closed doors, they have nothing like the kind of civil rights we have.

Other than that though I'm sure it's lovely.

Only a matter of time before we see a Chinese club winning the champions league.

Already done it mate... Guangzhou Evergrande | Liaoning Whowin | Dalian Shide have all won it ;)
