Case For Faye

edited May 2007 in General Charlton
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hear you cry but just give me a minute or so of your time.

The Championship is a more physical league than the Premiership although probably less skilful rather like our Amdy in fact!

Our team is physically very small compared to most and will be even more so if the likes of HH, Elk, maybe Diawara and Bent M depart.

Height is needed to defend corners and free kicks even if they are methods of attack that we as a club have largely abandoned under the present fans director:-)

It's likely that the midfield will be something like Ambrose, Holland, Hughes, Sam which looks distinctly lightweight to me. Faye would add some much needed ballast.

Have I totally lost it or do I have a point?

  • Len you'll get lots who disagree, as faye isn't popular, but i like you feel faye will do well in ccc because of the type player he is. the only thing is whether he fancies trips to scunthorpe on a tuesday night or indeed if pards even rates him, which by his lack of appearances under pards, suggests he doesn't. We have a lot of players in our squad who could thrive at ccc level but some may still try to delude themselves that they're up to staying in the prem and ask for a move. I do think the squad needs overhauling but i think it's a much more difficult process than clearing out 15 players for the sake of it and faye may be one of those players whose future needs to be more carefully considered.
  • I have watched him very closely in games this season and he brings nothing to the team. He ambles around with no sense of urgency. He lacks even basic skills in controlling & passing and I doubt he brings much in the way of leadership or communication. Quite simply his only asset is he is quite tall & can amble up & down all day long. He would probably struggle more in the CCC where the pace & combatitive midfields he wil be up against will further expose his complete lack of technique.

If we need a tall, energetic, combative midfielder who can pass & move - Simon Walton will do that, and thats not saying much.
  • He played well at centre-back the couple of times he had to slot in there. Maybe him and Diawara could work well together on a more permanent basis, though I suppose that's why we have Bougherra.
  • Its not just size that you need in the CCC its mobility and he has none. He makes Carl Leaburn look like Carl Lewis. Faye is second to the ball so often you wonder why he bothers challenging at all. He might be OK on the continent in the slower pace but in England with the ball fizzing about and second balls to be won all the time then he is hopeless. That bloke Muamba that Brum had on loan looked the goods....
  • We bought Faye because we needed someone to add steel to our midfield and we got a non tackling, no ball skills lump who obviously doesn't care two jots. Gotta be the most laughable transfer of last season and i include Traore in that. If we go into next season with Faye in the side i despair but realistically who'll be stupid enough to take him?

    S.
  • Get rid even if we have to give him away. He brings nothing to the table.
  • agree, he is one of the prime reasons squad wise, that we went down in my opinion, must be in the worst buys ever list - lets hope he had that relegation cancel contract clause....
  • Let's hope he demands to go on the transfer list and we can pick up a mill for him.
  • I reckon he'll go pompey for 750k
  • Interesting to see peoples views on this player & a few others, however it's not really down to Charlton cos if they don't get an offer for him he's going nowhere same applies to Bent (M) and a few others you would like rid of.

True, but the club can always offer to buy out the rest of the players contract and might decide to do so if Pardew really wants to get rid of the player.

I'd be happy to let MBent, Faye and Hughes all go for nowt, get em off the wage bill.. the only senior pros we should consider keeping are the ones that were at least Prem standard at some point in their career.
  • I might be alone, but I want Hughes to stay.
  • hes 29/30? never made it, poor mans Reid, 1 good game in ten.. just my opinion though

    :)
  • Me too, he'd be OK in the CCC.

Not on your own mate, i think he'll do a good job in the CCC. That's about his level.
  • A skilful player who did well in Division 1 for Birmingham ... used to score a lot, double figures usually I think.
  • The problem with Hughes is where do you play him? He's too lightweight for centre-mid and not really a winger so you end up playing him wide midfield as a compromise and he can dissapear out there. Ideally, he'd play at the tip of a midfield diamond but he is not good enough to build your team around.
  • No probs with Hughes staying. Feel sorry for him actually because he's a good CM but he's been played largely on the left wing where he's awful.
  • I'm sorry but Amady Faye is beyond all reasonable doubt the WORST player I have seen in a Charlton shirt bar none. I have been a ST holder since1987 and I have not seen a player as bad as him IMHO.

He has to go and go now

  • i like bryan hughes, a bit out of his depth in prem but hes an honest pro who whose goal scoring record is excellent in the championship. the position to play him i agree is tough, but its doubtful holland could start every game, there is a place for him in the squad.
  • Give it up Len old mate. I can see what you're saying, but I think the case against has been proven above.

Agree with that, except I think I would say he was the worst Charlton Prem player I have seen, not the worst over the last 20 years. He's definitely the worst value player of the last 20 years when you consider wages + transfer fee but over the last 20 years I would say that Mike Small and Mark McCammon would both be worse footballers than poor old Amdy.

Also, don't forget Djimi Traore. At least Amdy had that decent game against Bolton when he went to centre-back, poor old Djimi never even got to have a good game and gave away that infamous free-kick against Fulham at The Valley.

A bit harsh to "blame" him for that, surely Ormiston. The karate kick for the penalty against Liverpool is totally different of course, as is the sending off against West Ham ...... etc, etc. (I wont go on - I'm still in therapy to try to get over the memory of some of his "performances"!)
  • No, Off It, not blaming him for the Fulham free kick, just saying that it symptomised his time with us that he was the poor bloke at the centre of such a costly incident.
  • I get ya OA.

I genuinely feel that the sending off at West Ham set the tone for our entire season. We were playing catch up from that moment on. What a berk!
  • Could not agree more, that game epitomised what was to come perfectly.

    My feelings too.

Are they trying to apply for charity status or something?
  • I think Faye would prove a top player in the Championship. Along with Ambrose in Centre midfield, Reid and Hughes out wide, its a midfield capable of challenging for promotion.
