@Smudge ^ because, if my history is right we bought one of the most successful UK teams and re-branded them to Charlton before shafting them. Not this ownership/regime, I am not blaming them but we acted pretty disgracefully if my memory serves correctly.
  • Good luck to her.

I've removed your posts as this isn't the thread for discussing the rights / wrongs of women's football.

    thanks

Rubbish. You removed my comment because it was pro-RD.

There are many reasons to dislike the regime, but this isn't one.

Please accept that not everyone is happy to complain about the regime about everything.
It's the system man, you gotta stick it to the man.

    Fight the system!

That was my understanding too; we pretty much disbanded them on the same day they managed to play in an FA Cup final, as the mens side had been relegated so we needed to make cutbacks. Not a great way to treat a team that was doing very well on its own, and one that we'd snapped up 7 years before.

Great, Im sure the women who are on this forum will be thrilled.

Isnt this entire thread about the poor treatment of a member of the womens team, and subsequently the Charltons womens team in general? Isnt that part of the rights / wrongs of womens football then?

Feel free to delete this post too.
  • well said AFKA
  • Donated. Disgraceful that the Board aren't doing the same. No moral compass.

Thanks to everyone who's donated so far, only £1500 to go, this time yesterday it was £2.8k or there abouts.

    Checkatrade £5's welcome!

  • Donated. Hopefully we can make that magic figure and make RD look stupid.

I am thrilled. I didn't see your post but his post was condescending and completely unnecessary calling her "love" etc, written entirely to get a reaction in a way which wasn't needed. It worked. But please lets not derail this thread.
  • Not that it matters, I am just curious but, Is the op needed to assist recovery or is it knackered and her playing days are done?

    To get her back playing.
  • This sort of thing not covered by the NHS or is it just a case of avoiding the waiting list so she can't get back to playing sooner?

Sincere apologies to @Athletico Charlton here. I posted insinuating he professed an issue with women's football that he doesn't have. I'm not sure if I got it confused with another poster or just the writing was clunky, but either way apologies.

On more important matters, I've gotten I think three notifications from Gemma in the 24 hours and she seems absolutely blown away. Incredibly happy for her, but it's also scary to think that this is only the beginning of a long road to recovery.

Bit of both, I believe it's not 'urgent' in the eyes of the NHS and also quite a specialist procedure.

Fair enough, still outrageous the club isn't paying either way. Will be adding a few quid to the page.
  • Only just seen this and am happy to have donated.
  • Thanks everyone so far, I'm sure most of us feel the same but lets not let that get in the way of getting our prolific number 10 pack on the green stuff banging in goals! If you've never been get down to a game at Thamesmead, it's more fun than matches at the Valley right now!

I sympathise with her situation. From my experience the NHS is not that good at dealing with sporting injuries and I've had to spend a small fortune of private physio treatment.
  • Just contributed - wishing Gemma all the very best, and agree this is not the forte of the NHS.
  • Just donated the £50 that won't be going to Valley Gold next month as I am cancelling the direct debit following the letters received from VG this morning.

A while ago now, but I was advised not to get a knee op because I wouldn't play again after the NHS had butchered me. I was able to struggle on until I was 35 without one although I had to manage the pain etc... Arthritis in both knees now for some reason, but at least I have memories of playing. I got injured at 21. I don't know of any players I played with over the years who had ops who were able to carry on. It isn't like professionals who get the best, you have to go private or manage the injury.
