2 interested parties, both say they could pay off the debt.

Not a dissimilar situation to Bowyer's really. Wants to stay, adored by fans, but an incompetent owner not backing the manager is making his job much more difficult than it should be. To be fair to Ashley he has always said whatever money the club makes they can spend but that he cannot bankroll any more funds.
Is it so bad to expect them to live within their means.

Ashley is more competent than The Douche, but he is at least as bad a person and owner. He demands an actual profit each year and usually gets it. They have been relegated twice in his tenure. Newcastle has turnover in the PL that routinely ranks 7th-8th and attendances that equal Liverpool but their TOTAL net transfer budget the last 3 seasons combined according to Transfermarkt is minus £8M! That ranks dead last among the teams currently in the PL and behind at least half a dozen teams in The Championship. He uses the stadium to advertise his company, Sports Direct, without a fee, costing the club millions in money each year and he refuses to upgrade their training ground, which is woefully behind the curve. He regularly claims the club is for sale, this is the 5th straight year it has been for sale when STs go on sale and then magically, it falls-through once the season nears and the money has come in. Finally, he has siphoned off the part of the stadium ground that would have been used to expand St. James Park and plans to build a hotel there, meaning there is no way to expand down the line. Oh, and his statement about Rafa going? He released it without telling Rafa talks were over. Defines the word cnut.

The signings he spent money on were all offset by selling Vydra and Wiemann.
Agreed that Derby were not really much better off though, they're always in the top 10.
