I don't think Appleton was a weird hire as such, he was a known manager who had done OK in L1 previously so it made sense from that perspective, he was just rubbishMarcusH26 said:BalladMan said:
Some of the randoms we had in the 2010s are surely more baffling than Appleton. I could not stand the guy but at least he has been promoted out of league one so had SOME experience.Valley11 said:It still amazes and terrifies me that we ended up with Appleton.I remember when he was appointed, I thought it was a hoax.He always came across as a strange bloke who just felt wrong on every level as our manager. The fact we had him as a Charlton boss at all is and will always be one of the most damning markers in our wrenched recent history.
Karel Fraeye will always be the weirdest we ever had. But Appleton will definitely make the Top 5.5 -
Can only see this going badly for Shrewsbury, if it can get any worse in the first place.
Digging out fans and players, no emotion/passion on the side line and tactically inept at this level. Can't think of many managers I'd least rather have when their fighting for their lives. With his downbeat interviews claiming we always played well and still lost I wouldn't be surprised if they're pissed off with him before his 9 games run out

Not really fighting for their lives though are they? They're 14 points from safety with 9 games left and their next 2 games are away to Birmingham and Wycombe.CoveredEnd1905 said:Can only see this going badly for Shrewsbury, if it can get any worse in the first place.

There's no pressure on him because i doubt there's any expectation of survival.0 -
Appleton wasn't a success with us, and he wasn't with Blackpool in the Championship in his last job before he become our head coach. His successor at Blackpool faired no better, Mick McCarthy, taking them down.
However, Appleton got Lincoln to the play off final the season before, and got Oxford promoted from L2 before that, and he did coach in the Premier league, as Craig Shakespeare's assistant at Leicester.
Now some may overlook those facts about his past that must have appealed to those in charge here who took a chance on him, but if those who appointed Jones, his successor, had only focused on his failures, I doubt he'd have got the job. I'm glad he did.
Apples had to go, but I wish him luck at Shrewsbury. He'll need it. They're as good as down. Don't see the point personally. Smacks of desperation on all sides.2 -
If he does an alright job and makes the right noise internally, I am sure they will offer a longer contract (albeit in league 2). Try before you buy for both parties.swordfish said:Appleton wasn't a success with us, and he wasn't with Blackpool in the Championship in his last job before he become our head coach. We'd have bought Apples after his first nine games on that basis.BalladMan said:

I suspect the dumb passivity is what many directors of football clubs look for. Len Shackleton got it right many years ago.fenlandaddick said:He must interview really well0 -

After losing at home to Crawley 0-4, that is no surprise Steve Evans fell on his pork pie, chicken legs,
Yorkshire puddings, an extra round of cheese and pickle sandwiches, 4 packets of Crisps, 6 extra large Vul-au-vents, a couple of Doughnuts and washed down with a few pints of John Smith's bitter.
Evans may well get a new manager bounce wherever he turns up next; imagine a trampoline 🤔

very strange season for the Millers .. v us they were superb and gave us a lesson all over the pitch .. they hardly seem to have got a result since .. seems that Big Ol Steve has lost his ability to motivate and get his players performing consistentlyfenaddick said:0 -
Signing JCH hasn't worked out. Have to wonder if he's either unmotivated or just past it. Looks like we dodged a bullet on that one.Lincsaddick said:

Why is he dressed up in that outfit and wearing a headdress?North Lower Neil said:Gareth Ainsworth has a weird Wikipedia photo, pass it on.1 -
Very surprising how poor Rotherham have been this season, when with their history of yo-yoing between the Championship and L1, you'd have expected them under Evans to easily be top 6.1

Bring linked with Rohl, and I guess Wednesday could probably do with the compensation and a wage off the books.JustFloydRoad said:
If he goes, wonder If SCP goes with him?0 -
Pretty ridiculous, what were they expecting him to do?JustFloydRoad said:
Including interims they'll now be on their 7th manager since November 2022.0 -

Would be very surprised if it's not Rohl and SCP at Southampton. Wonder if Leicester lose heavily tonight if RvN goes?0
