They formed because they didnt agree with how the Glaziers were running Man Utd?
They were and are a ludicrous and hateful little vanity-project set up by self-righteous arseholes for whom simply going to watch Altrincham would have been downright unfashionable
I agree with those that say that it's different from AFC Wimbledon and that CAFC is our club etc. etc., but these jokers are capable of taking us down much lower than we are right now. And, what if they leave with the club in ruins financially in the Conference? I am not in favour of AFC Charlton, but if they maintain the slide, it might be a case of little choice. I think it's unlikely but I don't rule it out.
A decent start as well, with back to back promotions.. even if they are pulling in sub-100 crowds and at the 10th level. Interesting to see that the Coventry City ladies ended up merging, to become Coventry United ladies.
Surely there's nothing wrong with 15 or so young'uns putting together a Sunday league team and calling themselves that. Certainly would raise an eyebrow in the press and doesn't nessecerily have set out with same end game as Wimbledon.
AFC Wimbledon was one of the best and worst things that have happened in football.
Every situation is unique, but their club was literally taken from them. What they have achieved since is amazing and inspiring.
Trouble is that since then whenever there is any unrest / unhappiness at a club a group of fans with ideas above their station and always wanted to be involved in football trot out the AFC card with dreams of being the next Wimbledon.
Charlton Athletic is my club and until it doesn't exist it will always be my club. I don't like what these people have done to it, what they will continue to do it, and like hundreds / thousands of others I'm trying to do my bit to get them to leave as soon as possible.
We still have a club to fight for. The question should be, how do we continue the fight for the club? The support has taken a battering, we have lost a generation of fans and everything that needs to be said has been. Additionally the protests have peaked. So the real question is where do we go from here?
You'd have to be some sort of glutton for punishment mug to set up as AFC Charlton after a lifetime supporting the real one with very little period of joy and success. No, for me if it really goes tits up I'll be setting up AFC Barcelona or AFC Juventus to see a bit of decent football and win the odd trophy.
While it is an option for me, it is a very, very last resort. For me at the minute the main question is, what now? We've had an array of protests so far and will be seeing more against Coventry, I'm not aware of any details on it yet so can't comment but while we've seen theoretical progress in terms of a British manager (an absolutely atrocious one at that) and more UK based recruitment, I think it'd be brave to say we've got any closer to making him sell. I think it's clear than anything that will be successful has to be radical in some way. The matchday income has already drastically dropped this season along with less money coming from relegation etc etc but he doesn't seem to be wavering.
I was thinking either 'Real Charlton'. Real is in the English sense that the fans are Charlton, not the regime. Also Real in the Spanish sense as from the Royal Borough (can't believe I'm suggesting that one as a republican). Either that or Charlton Athletic Red Dynamos (CARD).
Far to early for that though, and hopeful we'll never get to that point.
No, if it comes to that I think I will turn my back on football altogether. I'm appalled and depressed by what is going on at Charlton and generally disgusted with the greed and stupidity that is rife in football these days.
I've found myself starting to already but am trying to fight my apathy.
I'm certain part of Duchatelet and Meire's original plan was to drive traditional supporters away and create apathy so they can do what they want with the club unchallenged. The level of Katrien Meire's stupidity means she genuinely thought fans / customers are replaceable. I think she's now realising that isn't going to be the case, and that even if you do miraculously entice people to 'experience' this circus, they're not coming back for a second visit. This explains her recent backtrack and PR soundbites about the fans (the same ones she's openly dismissed over the last two and a bit years) are the heartbeat of the club. She doesn't really believe it, but knows it's her absolute last chance to scrape any last revenue before Duchatelet starts to ask questions. The club is losing money fast, they know it, we know it. Time to go Duchatelet, you've failed and there's no way to reverse it.
We'll get our club back. And we must never reach this level again.
Got a feeling west ham will be the next lot to set up an AFC club. Proper old school west ham (who I happen to begrudgingly respect) won't suffer what's going on down there for too long. Who would??

They were setup by fans who felt they were being priced out of the Premier League
It's still a football club with great tradition and history.
Just because the owners don't think so and are not aware of that, doesn't change anything.
Bollocks to FC Charlton AFC Charlton or whatever.
Just concentrate on getting the owner removed.

And that's about the bottom line to it for me
Cos AFKA said so!
