In December 1937, during a football match at Stamford Bridge in London between Chelsea FC and Charlton FC, the game was abandoned in the 60th minute due to heavy fog.Unfortunately, Charlton FC goalkeeper Sam Bartram did not realise that the game had been abandoned and continued to defend his goal for another fifteen minutes. He did not hear the referee's whistle due to the noise of the crowd behind him.Believing that his teammates were attacking the opponent's goal, he remained with his arms outstretched, completely focused on protecting his goal in the thick fog.Barely fifteen minutes had passed when the ground police approached him and informed him that the game had been abandoned 15 minutes earlier.

Great story, but I don't think that's Bartram, is it? There are other pictures of him that day and he is clearly wearing white shorts. Also his head looks too rounded and his hair too dark to me.MrWalker said:

I’ve seen the story from multiple different sources with multiple different accompanying pictures, none of them look like SB. I’m fairly sure there was never a picture taken on the day.Stig said:

I am completely mesmerised by this photo of a humpback whales eye by photographer Rachel Moore.
