Third away game and I saw two goals. Good away day support the team not the regime. Pretty boring game .Rudd with some excellent saves . Holmes running at the defence such an exciting player. I am so sorry but I ve got man love for fox really has improved just need a song for him. Social club was very welcoming. One fault of the day was how many police were there it was stupid amounts. Fair play to the blonde copper who ichatted with at half time asking who Roland is etc . Great day out forget the win. Still proud of our support and proud to be a Charlton fan.
My first game of the season and a successful sortie to boot. We played with an air of confidence first half and I liked the look of Holmes, Magennis, Rudd and Konsa. Crofts grew on me as the game went on Foley less so.
We were comfortable and deservedly took the lead just before half time from Johnny on the a spot Ajose after a Magennis header from a Holmes cross fell into His path.
Jackson left the field 10 mins into the second half for Lookman to have his usual second half run out and I felt that the teams' balance suffered. We seemed to be happy to get bodies behind the ball and rely on an out ball to Magennis who battled well. Walsall were kept at bay until a cross shot seemed to catch Rudd out, who incidentally had made some outstanding saves previously and they were level.
This seemed to spark the Addicks back into life and almost immediately we took the lead again through Ajose who had the simplest of tap ins at the far post after Magennis had spun his man and bore down on the keeper in the inside right channel and laid it on a plate. The chorus of 'you're not singing anymore' from the home end lasted no more than a minute before it fell silent to the same chant from the delighted visiting addicks.
Holmes took a heavy challenge and immediately signalled to the bench to be subbed and with it went a lot of our attacking threat. THD entered the fray in LM and Lookman went across to the other side.
Despite a late flurry, some desperate Charlton defending and poor finishing by the home side we held onto the three points and on balance deserved them. We came, we saw, we conquered.
Neither have set the world on fire so far this season and whilst we lost our opening game of the season we've hit form ourselves, reckon Scunthorpe will be the harder of the two matches... If we can come through these two matches with another four points then I'll be delighted
Interesting how they've both played Bristol Rovers, Fleetwood and Wimbledon. - Two promoted sides and one who just escaped relegation last season.
Without being biased, think arguably we have had the harder fixtures in comparison. Especially when we have been so far behind recruitment.
Both going to be hard games but totally agree that if we come away with 4 points, that's a great start IMO.

On the other hand we've played Bury who finished mid-table last season / Shrewsbury who just escaped relegation / Northampton the Champions of League Two / Walsall who are Play-Off losers... Scunthorpe like you say have either played teams who finished below them last season or have come up from 3rd and the Play-Offs whilst Bolton have faced Sheffield United (Who are doing terrible anyway)
Great result and I'd take the table now at the end of the season I've taught my 4 year old how to sing "we are going up ,say we are going up" gotta continue the brainwashing even if it is with fake enthusiasm .... Fuck Off Roland
6% Top two ......... 29% 3rd-6th ......... 60% 7th-12th ......... 5% 13th-20th ........ 0% relegation
Its early days but on the basis of what I've seen (with the goals) this season... I'm going to stick by my comments from last season: League One definitely seems weaker than 2011/12
Is still a dangerous Division and we'll lose a lot more games but I'm not as impressed with the opposition
My first league game of the season today and it turned out alright
After the win against Shrewsbury, we had to follow it up with a decent performance today to show that it wasn't that we just beat one of the poorer teams in the division. Walsall aren't a giant of League One by any means, but they are pretty solid at this level so it was good to go away with a win knowing that we are definitely improving.
It was a pretty tight game and it could have gone either way in the end. Holmes had another good game and Ajose kept getting himself into the box and as a result he bagged his two goals, though neither were clean strikes. The first seemed to just be bundled in off his body somehow, but I'm sure he doesn't care, they went in and should give him some confidence.
This was my first look at Magennis and he seems a decent prospect. Good strength, worked hard and created Ajose's second goal. Our midfield still looks lightweight unfortunately. Croft worked his socks off, as did JJ as you'd expect, but I'm not really sure what Foley adds. The last time I saw him he was playing right back for Solly, and I thought it suited him better.
I felt a bit sorry for Rudd, he had a really good game today and will be really disappointed at the goal he let in. I'm not sure what happened, he looked well positioned but seemed to get the timing wrong. I bet he was pleased that we scored so quickly after they equalised or that error could have played on his mind a bit more. He pulled off some great saves, particularly towards the end of the match when Walsall really threw everything at us.
Finally, I thought the away fans were amazing today. Great atmosphere, lots of support for the team and some good anti-regime songs!
Rudd 8 - three outstanding saves but at fault for goal Solly - 7 - as solid as always but missed simple chance Fox - 6 - didn't get forward but otherwise ok Konsa 7 - did nothing wrong Pearce 7 - likewise Holmes 8 - always positive and direct; assist for goal Foley 7 - underestimated; great work rate and covering Crofts 7 - a battler in the centre of the park Jackson - 5 largely anonymous Ajose - 6 two simple finishes and unlucky with cheeky lob Magennis 8 - outstanding; great signing
Lookman - 6 - held ball up well to stop it pinging back Holmes Dennis 5 - barely involved Bauer 6 - good to see him back in unfamiliar role
An enjoyable afternoon, its good to see the team gelling. Was really impressed by Magennis upfront, power, pace, good in the air and unselfish in his build up for our second goal. Also has the added bonus of a long throw. Crofts in midfield was outstanding, holding the whole team together, tackling, courageous blocks, sensible accurate passing and developing a good understanding with those around him.
Disappointed with both full backs. Not so much in their defensive abilities, but their link up play with the midfield down the flanks. Need to improve in this area, too many aimless hoofs downfield, giving posession away.
Ricky was struggling with his ankle, and was not the influence he has been, but he's a plucky chap and kept battling away to try to create something.
It did make me smile, an ironic one, when during the second half, after 10 mins of continual chanting the " Just sell the club, our famous football club" song, Walsall equalised! Don't want pelters for this comment, it just made me chuckle.
First time I've seen Magennis play and was really impressed. Thought he'd be just a big lump but he was very mobile and won everything in the air, left or right. Thought fox was outstanding, the cynic in me thought there must have been a scout from West Ham there! Crofts and foley were far better than when I saw us at Cheltenham, Crofts in particular was excellent. Konza impressed though it was good to see the BFG back for the last 10 mins. Holmes was good but does tend to hang on to the ball a bit rather than moving it on quickly. This slows our attacks and is probably why he's not playing at a higher level. Scoring 2 hopefully will spark Ajose on to better things though the first just hit him and he miscontrolled the second into the net. Magennis my mom closely followed by fox

Support the team, not the regime!
had some bloke behind me who for that entire ten minute spell was saying "we should be singing songs for the players, none of this anti regime stuff gets behind them" but then proceeded to call a number of players "f*king useless" when they misplaced a pass. How's that for ironic.

Great footage!
In that situation you normally expect a home side to go on and look for the winner.
Up the Addicks!
Ps. Only 61 comments - a lot of people obviously short of things to say when the mighty Reds win away from home....

But you know the problem with it, don't you?
RD will feed it into his algorithm and the result will come back:
" no further signings needed"
Is still a dangerous Division and we'll lose a lot more games but I'm not as impressed with the opposition
The fact that all our signings have come from British clubs certainly suggests he's in charge of transfers, not the RD laptop gurus

Fans quality. Magennis quality. Rudd quality.
The next two games will provide an indication where we're at

Thought we were very good on the counter attack though with Magennis' pace and power.
Special mention to Konza and Crofts who I thought were excellent today.
