It's all abut the Budget.

Charlton FC like all football clubs has a budget they it adhere to.
The problem is that the budget is not fit for purpose. The purpose being to make CAFC a competitive and successful team.
There is no ambition for it to be successful because the focus is to produce product (academy players) and sell it on.
The budget is so low because of all the bad decisions made by this lot in the past two and half years. (KM boasting how we had the third lowest budget in the Championship, understandable if we were skint and not owned by one of the richest men in Belgium)
That is why Roland you need to go, as a club with no ambition will lose its support. (Ultimately lose you a lot of money)
We need an owner who believes in CAFC as a football club like other owners apart from the other four clubs you own. Who is prepared to invest in the first team with a plan to build it like Curbishley & SCP. Not like you basically saying everything is for sale. Then make stupid panic buys that are expensive mistakes. Roland how many players have you bought that you have cancelled contracts. Polish Pete for one (Yans replacement).

  • I don't think this is entirely true. We as a club have always been best when the underdog and when the team, fans and board are pulling together.

Our demise is as much about the alienation of fans, the ridiculous management decisions, the constant change, the inept managers and the unprofessional way the club is run as it is about budget IMO.
  • Surely Pope could have dug his heels in and refused to go?

Yes he could & KM could have told him he wouldn't play again.

  • Interesting post Valcross, I agree with everything you've put in the text, but I don't go along with the title. The budget is a problem in itself, but it is a symptom of deeper problems (owner's strategy, CEO's ineptitude, debts incurred through previous errors). Also there are problems at the club that aren't all about the budget, disrespect of fans, disrespect of history, absolutely crazy decisions made by people who, three years on, don't understand the basic nature of football in general or our club in particular.
