  • It's it ok to throw smoke bombs if you're wearing flares?
  • Over the top to teach a lesson, unfair on the 'first' person they do it to though. Ridiculous to be fair, but it still won't put people off.
  • The British legal system, everybody!

*Flares are bad, don't bring flares to games.
  • fucking joke.
  • young lad makes a stupid decision in bringing a flare to a game. from that he gets a prison sentence which ruins job chances in the future which ultimately could and probably will change his whole life and not for the better.

  • A year is an absolute joke.
  • That is a disgrace.
  • Where does that article say he threw a flare?

Or kicked off at the old bill?
  • edited July 2016
If you read the actual article (not the one Oxford put out) he was actually sent down for a number of things and the smoke bomb bollocks was just part of it, main thing was resisting arrest I think. Just Oxford have Made out it was only the smoke bomb thing to suit their agenda

Headline: Football fan who threw flare during match at Kassam Stadium, Oxford, to be sentenced next month

Paragraph three: The 22-year-old also admitted obstructing or resisting a constable in the execution of their duty on the same date.

  • Ah right. I ignored the headline and went to the article which described a "missile", which could be anything. Recently on this forum there was an argument about whether a beach ball constituted a "missile".
  • "Ewin Freeman appeared at Oxford Magistrates' Court today after admitting possessing a firework or flare at a sporting event and throwing a missile at spectators area on April 16.

The 22-year-old also admitted obstructing or resisting a constable in the execution of their duty on the same date.

His case was adjourned after magistrates decided to send the case for sentence at Oxford Crown Court, where he is due to appear on July 21.

Before we all get our knickers in a twist my reading of this is that a) he got sentenced for throwing flares about along with kicking off at the old bill and b) the fact it got sent up to crown court means he's got previous that the magistrates felt required a longer sentence than they were able to dish out.

    Oh, bollocks to him then.
  • He'll be gutted. Misses the kick-off with Millwall in that ridiculous football league cup thing.
  • In case anyone thinks it's OK to throw smoke bombs - they caused scorch marks on the pitch - therefore heat.

Still an offence to even bring one into the ground - anything that has a chemical reaction that creates heat is dangerous and the container can also cause injury if it hits someone.

It even goes further than that. If you are caught in the vicinity of the ground and there is reasonable evidence that you are going to the match, such as possesion of a match ticket, you can still be done.
