I respect Slade for saying this. It is, however, in very sharp contrast with the L1 season under Powell, when the management team used pre-season to solidify team spirit behind the one goal of promotion. Slade has already been denied that opportunity by this shambles of a regime. I imagine his candour will not be received terribly well by the current squad, either. Sad, bad times.
I would imagine his candour would be well received. I'd be pleased if my manager was pointing out we need more qualified players (staff) asap.
There is no indication however that Duchatelet has 'learned' anything over two years by his appointment of Meire as CEO and until that changes..............................................!!!
Apparently he regards her as if she were his own daughter and therefore she can do no wrong plus he's one very rich, stubborn, megalomaniac. Unfortunately they come very much as a package .
We looked quite sprightly at first on Saturday - on our toes and moving the ball quickly, Johnson shouting orders. Both Konsa and Hanlan have the physique and mobility for effective combat, and looked promising. Harriott made some swift advances down the right touchline in the second half.
Yet, our persistent failings surfaced again. Strikers missed the target when unchallenged (Hanlan and Harriott, in the first half). Midfielders facing our defenders, passing backwards under pressure instead of swivelling to feed the attack. Got bogged down in peripheral areas; no build-up of tempo or momentum. Crosses wildly misplaced. Only one testing shot in the second half.
Orient were the better side: had more of the possession and missed several good chances when our defenders went AWOL.
Novak needs to get involved and off the mark. Ajose is already injured. Our squad is threadbare. We've got problems.
I genuinely hope it works for Slade, I'm sick of hating the owners but I genuinely cannot see 6 players of significant quality to make a difference coming in.
Cannot believe the lack of ambition from the club. Makes me sick.
ROLAND THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH MONEY IN FOOTBALL BUT YOU ARE CLEARLY NOT SMART ENOUGH TO ATTEMPT TO SOLVE THAT PROBLEM SO EITHER DIG IN YOUR WALLET GET US A NORMAL BIG ENOUGH SQUAD ...SOME FUCKING PLAYERS!.... OR FUCK OFF.

You should do after the last 2.5 years.

He says Lookman will be playing for Charlton this upcoming season. 100% (not in those exact words)
Says we are in negotiations with several clubs on bringing in new players and the club are working very hard to get them in.
Ok, at least it sounds like we are not sitting on what we've got.
Roland, even if we sign 8 new players and you splash 10mil on them in the next few weeks and we end up winning league one (yeh and pigs can fly) I just want to let you know...
Charlton boss Russell Slade hopes to strike a deal with former Ipswich Town and Wolves man Kevin Foley.
Foley has been on trial with the Addicks for several weeks and first featured for Slade’s side in the pre-season defeat at Bromley.
The Luton-born player missed Saturday’s trip to Leyton Orient, but was back in action for Charlton in the 0-0 draw with Ipswich on Tuesday.
Slade believes Foley, who was released by the Tractor Boys, brings a maturity to the side and admitted he wanted to keep the 31-year-old at the club.
“Kevin is a really solid player and talking to Mick [McCarthy] before the game, he clearly thinks very highly of him,” Slade said.
“He’s one we would like to keep in the building if at all possible because you need depth, there’s no doubt about that.
“Kevin is quite flexible and adaptable in that he slid into that full-back position and he can play in midfield.
“He’s a really solid, steady footballer and I’ll be honest, we look a better team when we’ve got the likes of [Andrew] Crofts and Foley in there – I think we look more mature and controlled with them in the side.”
With less than two weeks remaining until the start of the new season, Slade admits he still hopes to bolster his squad with several signings.
And the former Cardiff City boss expects to complete some business before the end of the week.
He added: “Of course with the season not too far away we need to still be recruiting, which we are.
“We’re working really hard as a club to ensure that we get maybe five signings in before the start of the new season.”
When asked whether he was able to put a timeframe on the club’s incoming deals, Slade said: “They’re like buses aren’t they sometimes?
News Shopper:
“You wait for a long time then maybe two or three come together – that would be nice if that happened right now, but look, it’s not time to panic.
“We have got our targets set and we are in negotiation with several football clubs. We would hope that we could do some business by the end of this week.”
At the top of Slade’s transfer wishlist is a new goalkeeper – the departures of Nick Pope and Stephen Henderson have left the Addicks without a senior stopper at the club.
“We’re very close, we would hope to conclude the business this week,” said Slade, when asked about the goalkeeper situation.
“It would be nice to be able to do that and to settle a few people down as we prepare for the season.
“These will get done, these signings will come in.
“But there’s no need to panic because we don’t want to get players who are not the right fit for the football club.”

That your still a c*nt.
Sadly, it's unlikely to be his decision. As we all know, if we get a decent bid (well knowing us, ANY bid) then he'll likely be sold by Roly and poor old Russ won't have any say.

I think Russ would leave if we sold Lookman and especially if we sold Lookman before making the much needed desperate signings before that deal.
Surely a bid for Lookman will occur from at least one club.

Just brought in Nugent as his number 2 and a physio and doctor.
He'll stick it out until he's sacked or he's a success.
He's used to small squads and even with the bare bone we have now we can be "competitive" with him at the helm and he knows that. He'll give it a go IMHO
If Slade has publicly stated that the squad is miles away from challenging a promotion bid (which was the benchmark set by the owners for this season), that effectively means he believes it is unlikely he can meet that benchmark.
So what does he do? Stay and try and work with what he has got/is left with? Or resign, knowing he has not been given the resources to achieve the target he has been set, which will possibly end in his sacking anyway?

I understand that SWMBO has reprimanded the gaffer, telling him that any future statements of this nature must be in kilometres.
Less than two days to the final friendly of the season and still no sign of the experienced goalkeeper and 4-5 other recruits the manager has asked for!
