Just went past myself, at least they're making use of an empty plot of land that'd otherwise be going to waste. The land is owned by Ikea pending full planning permission for a store - if Ikea can't be bothered to do anything with the land, at least someone else is.
Tell that to the poor folk living round the corner paying full SE London rates and rents for the privilege on top of income tax, while trying to replace their BBQ that's likely to go missing over the coming days
The travellers I've encountered who live on static sites are completely different to those who keep on the move. I didn't have an opinion until I encountered some of the anti social behaviour at close quarters - flytipping and vandalism about 400 yards from where I lived was pretty appalling and obviously the group just moved on. This went on for months and I dread them coming back.

The land is actually owned by a charity, Ikea will be leasing. I've just been past their last site in Beresford st and they've left about 20/30 truck loads of rubbish.

I'm sure they'll clean it up like they normally do. If anybody else went around dumping shit everywhere they'd get prosecuted.

It won't be empty for long it will soon be full with shitty nappies & other rubbish.
I remember turning up at what used to be Carpetright to repair a truck where the new Sainsburys now is, the manager informed me not to open the shutter at the rear of the store as there were some vans parked there. Youngsters outside were deliberately kicking a football at the steel shutter and in the short time I was there it was doing my head in. Returning the store a week or two later and finding they had moved on, I was talking to a couple of fitters loading carpet. As it turned out the constant banging on the shutter got to someone who yelled why don't you feck off, within two minutes 2 quad bikes drove into the shop giving the suspected culprit a clump before driving out again.

So landowners have no rights as to how they choose to use their land in your view?
£9,500 of Greenwich council tax money gone on clearing the fly tipping after travellers spent a few days on Hervey road playing field. Plus costs to council officers and police issuing court orders and section 61.

What a bunch of scamps they are. They seem to be above the law - allowed to dump rubbish and trespass without any problems. Why the f*** are they allowed to behave like this?
Where I live the local population fly tip on a regular basis, especially just in front of our back access (ooer matron), and on the corner at the bottom of the road, and under the two railway bridges.
Love em. Have nothing but good to say about them. I mean, everyone takes the piss don't they? If the system can be exploited then fuck it! Wish i had a "way of life", a "tradition" to fall back on. There is a lot to be said in being in a minority group. Take what you can get and fuck everyone else that's what i say...

Because if anyone attempts to do anything about them. They get called racist.........................
As long as they set up a fair ground with a waltzer and I can shout come on you gypos is that the best you've got as they try and make me sick, I'll be happy.
I am responsible for a group of charity shops in rural west kent/east Sussex, every time there is a horse fair in the vicinity of one of them we get loads of thefts groups of 7/8 travelling folk pile into the shops at once...needless to say our stock is somewhat lighter. More recently one of my team a lady in her early 70's was harassed and intimidated by a couple of young lads. Police & local PCSO's were informed and they didn't give shit. I remember as a kid growing up near Horsemonden that they shut every shop & pub because of the thefts & violence. There maybe some pleasant travellers out there but I have certainly never met one
Some of the people on this thread need to take a chill pill, living in Chelsfield I know a lot of travellers from cray including star lane. A lot of em are my mates indeed some come to charlton with me. And yes some of them are wrongens what can I say this applies to all sections of society.
