Tonight the teams were both weaker then Saturday , more young players playing, some players getting their first action after injury, players on trail This game and all the friendly games will have no bearing on what happens at Bury it's solely for Russell Slade to look at his squad look at systems to decide what business he needs to do The next week away will do everyone a world of good to bond as a team and give Slade chance to work with them and get his ideas across .
What I have seen and read Konza has the pedigree to be an incredible footballer. Very classy.
However, it shows how exceptional Gomez was. Eighteen years old and never got bullied by the strikers.
Hopefully Slade will be able to bring a creative centre midfielder in sooner rather than later.
Shame he had to partner RoJo in both matches.
Yes, too young to listen to that foul language!
Agreed. Partner him next to any of Bauer, Tex or if we still had the classy TBH and even Morrison, he would learn a lot.
High hopes for Konsa, this maybe his breakthrough year, but let's let him develop naturally and not ruin his potential by throwing him in when he may not be quite ready.
If you were thinking of renewing your ST, then on the first half performance don't bother. It was more of the same dross as last year, with attacking free kicks played back into the centre and then to the keeper. Defending was average at best. Very poor.
Second Half - what a difference.
I don't know anything about Sonupe but SIGN HIM UP. Great to watch, tricky with the ball and very attack minded.
Holmes had a couple of great runs, and Hanlan volleyed Holmes' corner brilliantly.
Watt - same old TW, giving it a go.
Tex - we can't let this guy leave. Need him to play 50 games.
Fox - fair enough, couple of stray balls but no complaints.
Buxton - pretty solid Kennedy - didn't really notice him TBH, same for Foley. Crofts - not involved enough really, but did spurn one chance. Popey - nothing to do really. Ajose - played the first half and 15mins of second half - had a decent game overall. A real "tryer"
The first half team had it's share of junk like Hendo, Ceballos, Johnson, but Solly, Umerah and Konsa gave it a go. Harriot was his usual self, some decent play but no end product.
I know it was only a pre-season friendly, but you can tell a fair bit from the way we played. Spoke to big Jace who said it was early days and we would be better after Austria - whatever that means.
1st half we played Ceballos and Muldoon in the middle, JJ on the left and Harriott on the right. Bromley played a high pressing game and this stopped us playing football, all to easily for my liking. Johnson was very vocal in his dismay at not having many options. Solly looked particularly off pace, didn't bomb forward and was very late in a challenge that rightly got him booked. Ceballos must have had a pass completion of less than 50%, and Ajose barely touched the ball. The less said about Harriott, the better. Henderson let the free kick in through his hands and was poorly positioned a couple of times. Only Konsa, Muldoon and Umerah came away with any credit, mainly due to being young and enthusiastic.
Second half we looked better, maybe because Bromley were tiring, but the pace of Sonupe, Holmes, Watt and then Hanlan caused them problems. The shape was better too, with Crofts and Foley holding in midfield, Watt and Ajose up front and Holmes/Sonupe wide. Omce Hanlan came on he switched to the right and Holmes played in the hole. Buxton, Foley and Crofts are very run of the mill players, not much to write about, but not many mistakes made either. Fox was very attacking, and Texand, Pope and Thomas had little to do. Watt still doesn't release the ball, and unfortunately that means he loses the ball a lot, but for some reason the crowd picks up whenever he has it, despite the predictable outcome. Holmes however doesn't release the ball strsight away, but runs past 3 or 4 players and looks to pass/cross. I must say Sonupe has impressed me so far, his combined 90 minutes over the past few days will probably win him a development contract, but he is incredibly lightweight.
All in all, a decent run out for most, with the second half team looking more in tune, but as it's so early on there isn't much to conclude from it, other than Jackson isn't a left winger any more than Nick Pope would be.
I hope there are a couple of players joining us in Austria, else we are very short of options as it is
Those that impressed were the kids who most likely put in more effort to catch the manager's eye.
Konsa, Thomas, Sonupe, Hanlan, Umerah all looked confident on the ball.
Watt still hasnt learnt to pass the ball, Holmes went on a couple of long runs but didn't shoot. I think he'll do well in a dominant side which I'm not sure we will be. He can't defend though on tonight's evidence.
Crofts was better the Foley but neither looked all that.
Pope looked stronger than Hendo.
Little shape or understanding but not a surprise with so many new players and changes.
Katrien was there 2nd half.
Bromley looked very up for it and should have another good season. Could be a league game next year!
BUT it was just a friendly so means little. Orient will tell us more.
My phone has got a scratch so thread tiitle looks like score was 2-4 to us on my screen so thought would scroll through. Was looking forward to readibg our comeback but it never bloody happened.
Being a Charlton fan is not easy. It requires a steady nerve and you have to be a stoic, a realist and eat shit more times than not. We will never set the world alight, even in our pomp and prime, success on and off the field has been met with a grudging admiration in knowledgable footballing circles but with complete indifference in the main and the world in general. It mirrors most of our supporter base if truth be told. Our protest is humourous, well thought out but never overly confrontational or violent.
So we find ourselves being run by indifferent, incompetant buffons, not for the first time. Tonights result as has been stated on here should not be taken too seriously...yet.
I agree this lot have learnt some lessons but will not have the minerals to go the full mile and overide, natural self-conceit and pig headed delusions. Slade may strike lucky, we may go on a run and stay there but my Charlton supporting radar says no.
Play off heartache at best this year and a faint hope that in an office somewhere in Belgium, a certain Roland Dutchelet decides, "feck it" let's get the hell out of there.
She (Katrien) was there first half. Saw her take her seat next to her minder about 5/10 mins in. Looked very uncomfortable, with the minder doing most of the glad handing.
The thing is yes it's shit to lose, but they mean nothing let's not forget England beat Germany in a freindly and we were gonna win the Euros only to be dumped out by Iceland a country with no professional football teams, Celtic lost to a semi pro side from Gibraltar last night, are they going to finish bottom of the spl no of course there not, freindlies are for trying new things out, I also don't think players are going to give there all, last thing you want is to pick up an injury in pre season, I think if we can keep majority of the team that started last night including watt ( as I think if his attitude and fitness stay) he will be on the of best players in league one, I'm expecting a top 6 finish.
Keep up the losing and Slade will know all he needs to know and more , winning will help no one . I mean just look at KF he was the font of all Charlton football knowledge by the time he left

Colin's account has been hacked!
It is funny how he writes like a two year old, then all of a sudden can post something that you can almost understand.

I don't know why squirrel face bothers.
Oyston aside, does any other owner have a minder with them at a football match?

Celtic game was champions league, not a friendly
Apologies didn't know that, either way I'm sure there are quite a few big clubs that have a loss that doesn't forge there season, that's the point I was trying to make

He's a steward in hospitality. Surely way beyond his job description (which isn't even a full time job), to be running around minding her at pre-season away games.

I saw him walking to the ground on Saturday in shorts so I assumed he was there to watch the game as some people have commented he is a fan. By the time of KM arrival he was in his usual spot alongside her. All very unique

More money/expense being wasted whilst other departments at the club are having to raise money for equipment by selling items on eBay.

I'm not having this "it was just a friendly" crap. It was just a friendly for Bromley, just friendlies for Southend and the mighty Chelmsford City last season.
"It was just a friendly" could easily be the epitaph on the club's gravestone.
