Got to hand it to them, they are making it increasingly difficult to maintain the boycott with the sensible manager and two sensible signings. In a way it makes it all the more frustrating that they didn't listen and take this approach a year ago.
We'll need to see what the squad looks like at the beginning of the season in order to make a judgment and from that point, as someone else pointed out, we're fighting to get back to where we started again thanks to their woeful mismanagement.
The other problem is, the regime (and Katrien in particular) are in the red by some margin when it comes to trust so there's a lot to undo and I'm not sure I'll ever forgive Katrien her lying and besmirching of the Charlton fans' history and reputation.
I guess what I'm saying is, I'm a lot more conflicted than I was a couple of weeks ago.
I do have one burning question. It's essentially irrelevant but I can't figure it out: are the comms team/Katrien telling these new signings to mention Katrien by name in their interviews, which is is weird, or are the comms team being told to add in something the players haven't said, which is both weird and probably quite annoying for the players themselves.
Which is it? And does no-one see that this is an odd use of their time?

I would guess the new players are being prompted to mention Katrien and just going along with it. Probably everyone involved (save possibly KM herself) sees it as an extremely strange use of time but if they're getting paid for it, why not?

Don't be conflicted.
Yes a British manager - Good. Two solid signings with possibility of another if Ajose comes off - Good
Wait to see if after a few sensible signings Roland reverts to type and leaves the squad short in depth with gaps as in the previous two seasons.
It would appear some lessons might have been learned but only for selfish reasons. The club is worthless at present and RD knows that to get any return or continue with his player farm he has to get promoted.
There has been no evidence in two and a half years to show that this regime are competent in running a football club.
A managerial appointment (the sixth) and two solid signings are far from proof that there is root and branch change.
Let's wait and see where we are on kick off before we cut them any slack.

I am as anti the regime as it gets but even I don't believe they are telling people to mention her. I bet in the past others mentioned Murray or even Varney. Or I could just be gullible.

I can't remember either of them being specifically mentioned in such glowing terms - a more general 'everyone involved' was more usual as I recall it. Certainly the phrasing of the comments coming at a time when everyone who isn't Roland has been highly critical of KM seems highly suspect... or I could just be cynical.
Don't want to dampen too much of the optimism and I'm sure he might prove a decent signing, but I'm not going to get too carried away with what is a professional Northener journeyman on his first voyage south of Birmingham (where it didn't work out for him).
He got 15 in 34 in League One last season which is encouraging. Pawel Abbott got 17 in League One for Oldham in League One the summer we signed him, and I can look back at the thread for that and see that the bulk of the people were very optimistic when we signed him

So we've ditched the Peter Parsley's but have we returned to signed Hayes / Kermorgant's, or Abbott / Benson's ??
When we signed Abbott all the Huddersfield fans were mocking us, this time everybody he has signed for says Novak is a good signing.......but we will have to wait and see.

what this is a snippet of what the Oldham fan on page 1 of that thread posted on here about Abbott
"Bargain of a buy on your behalf. Shocking decision by our club to let him leave. Easily our best striker, one of the most technically gifted target men outside the top flight."

Manager Russell Slade said: “I’m really pleased to be able to welcome Lee to the club. He has shown a consistency at both Championship and League One level, is a proven goalscorer and his work ethic is phenomenal as well.
“Lee is a real team player, will run and stretch teams, and help us to link our play. He’ll be a real pest to centre-halves and won’t give them a minute’s peace, and that is exactly what we want. All-round Lee will be a really good signing for us.”
Sounds like it could be written about Simon Church

Don't remember that, do remember the Huddersfield lot laughing at us though. That Oldham fan may nave been driven mad by the cold wind at their desolate ground.
If we'd signed this fella when we were last in league 1 i would have been pleased and impressed, given the muddy waters that have flowed under the bridges in recent years, i'm inclined to think we're going to get another Andy Gray, ie go out to buy a new motor and come back with an old banger, i really hope i'm wrong!!

Is that the same Andy Gray that was 31 on joining us?

Well, let's not forget what level we're playing at before we give them any credit.
If they'd given our British manager the players he needed 2.5 years ago rather than sacked him and pissed around with their experiment we might be two leagues higher.
And it will take a sustained serious commitment to success in the Championship before I even think of giving them the benefit of a reconsideration. I mean, come on - they've made the Spivs look accomplished in terms of football ambition and know-how.
Seems a good signing for our level. Went to a pantomime once with Steven Mulhearn and Danny Le Rue. Mulhearn stopped half way through the pantomime and then made a specch saying what an honour it was to work with such a great actor as Le Rue. I heard after that "allegedly" Le Rue wouldnt take part in the panto unless this speech was written into the contract. Could this be the same with Katrien?

Felt sorry for Gray. Had gone 13 games without a goal when we signed him. He had the offield health issues with his wife to contend with, not to mention relocating from the North. At another time it may well have been a good deal. Being managed by that big nosed twat probably didnt help either.

Hello Lee. Not very whelmed as any time I've seen you I've not been impressed but then again we are at a lower level now so maybe you'll do. Welcome to the madhouse.
A welcome addition. However, we still await how many will join Igor through the exit door. Also, as nice as promotion would be, it would only get us back to where we started under the regime. They would take the credit, when in fact they would have achieved absolutely nothing.

On paper it looks a solid signing for this level.

They have done the things we might have asked of them - it's about f*cking time.
It doesn't change things at all for me.
It reminds me of the expression "it's like polishing a turd. How ever hard you try, it's still a turd..."

Similarly when we signed Paul Benson.

Hayes / Kermorgant was ideal because Bradley Wright-Phillips up front complimented them.

Give Novak a chance he's only 27!
