Hahaha, yeah, people going overboard, in a game where only carragher and Shepherd put in a tackle it's easy to look good with oodles of time and no fear of a crunch.ValleyGary said:Mark Wright looked decent but I wouldn't get carried away with his level of ability. Last night was at a snails pace and I've seen players strike a ball like that in The Kent County Division.
Good free kick granted but any half decent keeper would have a hand on it.
Not taking anything away, it was a lovely strike.0 -
A Goalkeeper should have been ashamed had that gone past them... Was at a perfect height to be saved by a pro!!ricky_otto said:
Agree. Hit the free kick well enough, don't think it would have gone past Dida though somehow!ValleyGary said:Mark Wright looked decent but I wouldn't get carried away with his level of ability. Good strike though0 -
I'm glad some of you aren't involved in our admittedly atrocious recruitment
Josh Wright's dad had him at every single club in London before he signed for us as a kid and he would be the best footballer in that gene pool. I wouldn't want him back
It was good fun for charity although Bobby Axlerod got some tricks!
I played against Jamie Theakston in a charity game in Dover many many years ago and he properly smashed me and someone from his team coming to get a cross. He was a good keeper as I recall0 -
Josh Wright and Mark Wright are two different people though... (Albeit Brothers).0
-
Anyone know if I can watch this back? can't find it on any of the usual iplayer things...0

Loved the booing from the men whenever the two idiots from One Direction touched the ball.
Would have loved to have seen the female stampede had someone taken one of them out!!0 -
I'm amazed that more wasn't made by the commentators of Jack Whitehall's ball for Defoe's first goal. It was all about Defoe's finish but had someone like Sebastian Larsson played that ball to him for Sunderland they would have been all over it.1

Yeah instead it was all about how Defoe held off Cannavaro!!Addick Addict said:I'm amazed that more wasn't made by the commentators of Jack Whitehall's ball for Defoe's first goal. Jon Moss, what an attention seeker0

To be fair to Patrick Kielty, his attempt at saving Wright's free kick was probably the funniest thing he's ever done.11

Clive Tyldesley on commentary was more unbearable than ever. I'm glad ITV has lost pretty much all live football1

Absolutely this. Some laughable comments on Twitter about him being good enough for Championship and League One clubs! The bloke was released by Southend - 10 years ago. Give me a break.ValleyGary said:Mark Wright looked decent but I wouldn't get carried away with his level of ability. My musings:
Mark Wright looked good, but not a real paced game.
Jack Whitehall looks like he should be shite but was surprisingly good.
2 or 3 decent first time crosses that beat the defenders hands down.
Damien Lewis looked like he could spot the correct pass to make all day.2 -
Mark Wright and Damien Lewis stand outs. Murs trying to be a show pony but crap. Wilkes thinking he is a decent footballer but he isn't - not anymore anyway. Shepherd shouldn't be invited to play again - I thought it was a disgrace trying to break a pro's legs! He let himself down big time. If he had done that tackle against me - I would have needed to be held back! After recovering of course! Whitehall doesn't look like a footballer when he plays but his output put Murs to shame. He was effective. That Irish boy bander who was with Leeds - you must be having a laugh!0

Harsh on Ben Shepherd. You can't say he was trying to break another players leg. He was just too slow against two former pros and they were poorly timed and poorly executed. The first one was from behind and he got nothing of the ball against Davids. Could've been a red. The second was a genuine attempt to win the ball but again he was late. That could've been a red too as he was last man.
The sensible thing Moss should've done was allowed him to get subbed off. At the end of the day it's a charity game, it meant nothing and it's a bit of fun whilst trying to raise money for a good cause. The sending off luckily didn't spoil the game too much but it could've quite easily.
For me, Jon Moss has always liked the media attention. He gave out a fair few cards in that game... A friendly charity game.1 -

I don't think it was harsh on him at all. The second was not an issue, but he should not have been making that first tackle and he deserves all the criticism. Like I said - had he done that to me, there would have been serious afters!2

I'm sure he'll happily pop off for some afters with you big boy

Mark Wright to go on trial at Man Utd for 2 weeks according to The Sun today. Also Big Sam has offered him a trial... bizarre story of the day0

So to get a trial at Man Utd all you need to do to score against an unfunny Irishman! No problem give me a ball and stick Shay Given in goal.cafc-4-life said:Mark Wright to go on trial at Man Utd for 2 weeks according to The Sun today. Any trial for Wright is a gimmick. He is a decent player and I congratulate him for that, but Man Utd! Behave! I agree with the previous poster that Kielty's attempt at saving that free-kick was the funniest thing he has done!0
