Looking forward to the Championship

Part of me is glad we're down, the last few weeks of premiership life have left a bit of a bitter taste in the mouth. Yes i'll miss all the coverage we'll get but i'm actually looking forward to 'pure football' rather than all the politcial bollocks that surronds the premiership...

Not content with all the registration of Tevez stuff that has dragged on... Yet again one of the big sides sticks out a reserve side against one of the teams fighting for their life and 3 points are coughed up. Fulham would have been down but for Benitiz resting 9 players last week, and when was the last time Man Utd stuck out a side like that and rolled over? Neither of those sides would have stuck out reserve sides when there was still something to play for, while i appreciate that they have their own interests to look after, it makes the league fixture list as important as playing the actual games...

Fair play to West Ham for winning all their games, no grumbles with that, we're deservedly down, but i'm quite looking forward to winning a few games and not having a few big clubs dictating events at the top and bottom of the league.

  • "We've got our Charlton back, we've got our Charlton back, we've got our Charlton back, we've got our Charlton back"
  • more to the point how does one actually prove a weakened side has been put out?
  • you submit a squad of platers at the start of the season, you can play any of those players in any game whenever you want.

its a sportsmanship issue rather than anything else and one that is pointless in arguing about in my opinion!
  • Not suggesting that anything untoward has gone on, as WSS rightfully says it's a squad of players, just a few clubs have such a baring on both ends of the table...
  • I watched the Man U game and Man U seemed to go hell for leather at West Ham. they looked like they were really going for it to me. It was when they brought on Giggs, Scholes and Ronaldo that they seemed to take their foot off the pedal. tho i did keep falaing asleep through it so maybe ive got it wrong.
  • In fairness Man U gave it a go but were never at it 100%. The title was in the bag and they have a cup final next week so who can blame em.
  • The whole "weakened side" thing is unfair but how do you enforce any rule requiring the strongest available XI be played? Fergie will just say, "Oh, Wayne's got a tummy bug, haven't you Wayne?" "Yes, boss." "Aye, and Cristiano's got an awful bad migraine, he gets them all the time." "Si, boss." "And poor Scholesy's gone and ricked his neck, its really stiff." "That's right boss, bloody terrible it is."

And how could anyone prove otherwise?
  • It's one of those things, while no-one likes the idea of putting out a "weakened side" especially when it goes against you but if we are honest we'd all do the same thing and would be mad not to.
  • And Sheff Utd put out a weakened side before their game with us did they not.
  • Yes Henry, they did, at Old Trafford. They must be gutted now though because Man United had a really weakened side out as well so if Colin Wanker had put out his best side they might have snatched a point given that they only lost 2-0 anyway and Boro got a draw at OT a few weeks later.....

They also clearly took their foot off the gas at Villa too when they lost 3-0, because they thought the Wigan game was in the bag.
