Nice to see we have an events website when we don't even have staff.
I don't know how much the website cost, but seeing as they got the 020... bit right on the 'phone No., instead of 0208..., I'd say it's money well spent.
Let me put this into perspective as to what a fucking monumental piss take this is.
Last year I went to Brussels and our supplier took us to a great place called Belga Queen - one of the finest restaurants in Belgium - the food was unbelievable and the multi-lingual service flawless and the clientele made up of business people and senior bureaucrats.
Turns out that Belga Queen do a lunch menu too - for Eu20 per head you get three courses plus coffee, all served in sumptuous surroundings, cooked by world-class chefs and delivered by impeccable staff fluent in French, Flemish, English and German.
By comparison Katrien is trying to charge working-class football fans 38 QUID to come and eat a shitty carvery meal cooked by some bloke who probably got kicked out of catering college for being permanently stoned and served up by some bored teenager from Thamesmead who can barely string a sentence together and couldn't tell the difference between lamb or lobster.
I mean, what fucking planet are these people living on?
too many posts on here assume that all CAFC fans are fully paid up CARD members .. I am sure that the majority of fans have seen similar upheavals and 'traumatic' times at the valley and that their main interest, as strange as it may seem to some, is the football AND the club irrespective of the owner and the opposition to him .. this day out will appeal to many dads and their sons and daughters
Yes, of course people are using it to have a pop at the regime. Most of us can smell the rancid stink of the regime and are happy to use any opportunity to point out to anyone and everyone just how vile it is. Of course, some are less sensitive to the offensive odour of brand Duchatalet's Eau de Toilet and for some of them this promotion may even seem appealing. For me though it is a very good example of how football fans are seen as cash cows. £38 (thirty eight) for a carvery meal! How on earth do they justify that? Even the nicest carvery is nothing more than standard pub-grub. What extras could possibly make this one worth the price? The whole notion that this represents good value is complete and utter nonsense. It is simply preying on peoples' love of their club in order to con their loved ones into paying over the odds for something that is pretty standard faire. I'd say this whoever was running the club, the fact that our club is temporarily under such odious ownership just heightens my sense of alarm at this the most blatant of racketeering. Here is a list of the best roast dinners as compiled by the club's local newspaper. Their prices range from £5.99 to £21. They are all places that specialise in food and drink and giving their customers a good time. Kids, please don't be fooled into thinking that your old man would want to go to The Valley to eat an overpriced roast, your dad is almost certain to prefer a better quality meal in a place dedicated to serving it, probably selling real beer and doing so for half the price.

as usual you make very good points very eloquently .. BUT .. ignoring politics etc. etc. the whole idea of a stadium tour is that people get to see the places which are normally right off limits .. the trophy (empty ? lol) room, the dressing rooms, the tunnel. the boardroom, the treatment rooms, the torture chamber, the museum (is that part of the deal ?) and all other parts of the Valley which would be of interest .. that allied to a (hopefully) semi-decent tuck in will appeal to more than a few especially as a father's day treat .. better deal than a Daddy's Day Tea Deal at Fortnum & Mason
£38 each for me, wife, and eldest daughter, plus another £28 for the youngest = £142!! For a carvery. I'm sure you can guess that I won't be taking up that "fantastic offer".
Charlton Events is Delaware North (DNS). They run these dinners/tours and they get the money.
Ben Kensell pulled the wool over Katrien's eyes and sold the catering and hospitality to DNS.
DNS aren't very happy that the promises made by "sweat the asset" Kensell haven't come true. They calculated their costs and staffing on far higher spends and numbers. They were way out even before the boycotts and failing gates. If I was them I would be trying to renegotiate the deal.
But the manager who negotiated the original deal on behalf of DNS was Tony Cahones. Slight conflict of interest there. He so impressed KM with his catering skills she made him Chief Operating Officer for the the whole club and gave him oversight of the £10m+ training ground project.
Predictably the Sparrows Lane build has gone horribly wrong and is so late we can't get the work done in time for the next scheduled audit for Cat 1 Academy status. That means we have to wait another three years after that. Well done Tony.
Upshot is that DNS charge silly amounts to try and cover their costs and recoup their losses. That's why this is now £38 when £20 or £25 would be a reasonable price mark IMHO. And you can come and see the museum for free tomorrow (3 June 11.00 - 2.00)
I tagged along on one of the tours, a few other lifers were there, at Xmas and the meal was fine and plenty of it. The tour was well handled and informative and if you've not seen the dressing rooms, gone pitchside etc etc before then it would be of interest to most fans IMO.

He won't mind where the mugs customers come from, so long as they are handing over the cash and not getting any ideas like disrupting things or buying football clubs

Just out of interest HI who is the tour guide these days? There can't be many left that know as much about the club and its 'History" .......Mick, Olly are two that spring to mind (apologies if there are others). As for the tour of the pitch and dressing rooms, even I've been there more times than Cory Gibbs.
Why are people upset about the cost of an event that they have no intention of attending ?
It's not the first fathers' day lunch ever held at The Valley - did you attend the earlier ones but are now annoyed you can't go because it's become too expensive ?

Sounds like the plot from a third rate soap opera. Emmerdale Player-Farm perhaps.

Perfect indeed: I've been looking for a venue in south east London for upcoming events and parties meeting for ages.
Don't tell Papa Roland!!!
They must be bleeding money in all honesty, every income is down and all the outgoings are shooting up on the non-footballing side.

2014 was £35 http://www.cafc.co.uk/news/article/20140306-spend-fathers-day-at-the-valley-1401566.aspx
A Legend's stadium tour at Millwall is £22 if that is more appealing
