Relegation party at Anfield compared to Old Trafford ?

I wasn't at the relegation at Old Trafford, but from what i can remember the Mancs more than played their part. What were you memories if you were there ?

And do we expect the Scousers to be as generous ? I think they will

    lol!
  • I Swapped a shirt with a Manc fan at the end of that game & told them to stuff Palarse in the Cup Final next week.

I think the Liverpool fans probably won't be interested in swapping shirts more like snatching them off you & doing a runner with them.
  • only 1,500 of us at Anfield though. Very poor turnout indeed.

It was basically a 'hate Palarse' fest and a fantastic day.

The original notion was that everyone was to go in fancy dress. I made a pathetic attempt to look like a pirate, but we had vicars, nurses, tarts, scooby doo, Barney Rubble, Fred Flinstone and an 8ft Denis the menace!

Watford Gap was unbeleivable that day and there is a collection of Japanese tourists who I'm sure to this day recount the tale of Barney and Fred boarding their coach in a bid to hijack it!

I remember when we arrived at OT, all the non dressed fans went in first, to the usual chorous from the mancs of, 'going down, going down, going down. But when the rest of us started filtering through to the stand in our fancy dress singing the same song and doing the conga, the look on their collective faces was priceless! There was a pathetic attempt at them singing who the f**king hell are you at us, but when we started singing, 'You're gonna win the cup' at them, they all nearly choked and couldn't quite believe what was going on.

As this kept going the football became secondary and they started singing to us, No.1 in South London and you'll be back, we hate palace, etc, etc.

By the end of the match, the stewards couldn't shift either sets of fans as scarves, shirts, caps, badges and all manner of stuff was swapped. When we left there were droves of Mancs giving us a guard of honour to our coaches, shaking our hands as we went.

It was one of the best footballing days I have ever experienced, however it hadn't been for our collective dislike of the stripey nigels, it almost certainly would not have been anything like that.

It would be great if the same thing could be done for Anfield and if we sing, 'Your gonna win the cup at them', it almost certainly will.

is that all the club asked for?
  • i think we got 2k didn't we?

We could all dress up as Gillian Taylforth (sp?) seems appropriate somehow...
  • it was a brilliant day out - me and my lot managed somehow to get into the Lancashire cricket club bar in our mini bus .. god knows how..

the game was/is a complete blur but I remember it being totally anti palace day as they wer ein the cup final against Man U and the mancs clocked pretty quick and it was a hilarious hearing the whole ground singing anti palace.

there was swapping of scrves and shirts and generally all very lovvy duvvy.

we got 2,000 and 500 are still available.
  • KB, you missed out the best bit.

As we were leaving & the collective swapping of shirts, flags, scarves etc..started, one Manc asked Dad for his scarf remember?

You should have seen the Manc's face when our Dad told him to 'Feck Off, you're not having my scarf, I paid good money for that'.

    I nearly wet myself.

Seems appropriate to mention that today don't you think?

Daddy Killer, tight as you like, always has been always will be...................never realised how alike you were Bruv ;-)
  • Caught Colin Walsh's shirt when he threw it into the crowd.

Us trying to start a mexican wave on a terrace! Waving to the Standing Mancs to sit down so it would work and them thinking we were making rude gestures. Took them ages to realise we were just have a party but when they did they joined in.

Them singing "you'll be back" - only 8 years later!
  • Yeah I should have mentioned it, wasn't sure whether to or not!

Funny as feck and the fact that he kept justifying it all the way home as I remember, is it still that same one that he has in his cupboard?

As for me being tight, feck off I'm just carefull. ;-)

To season ticket holders only, so much for the membership scheme...

Yep, sure is & I think he'll proably take it with him too ;-)
  • Similar memories to KB's. It was a fantastic day out. Think the turning point was when they scored, and we all started singing 1-0,1-0,1-0. At that point the Manc fans finally got the massage that we were there for a party.

Only negative was the police/ stewards, who were complete jobworths at the end - they made a big effort to shift all the Manc fans out before they would let us go, completely oblivious to the atmosphere. It was amazing when their fans all lined up and clapped us back to the coaches outside.
  • Caught Steve Gritt's shirt when he threw it into the crowd. I think it was his 400th game for us, for some reason he wore No. 9 that day.
Got the train up, straight up to trafford park (now the tram station). Police and stewards didn't know what to do.
Great day and thankfully they did win the cup, well after a replay.
  • 'MAKE SOME NOISE'

    clap, clap, clap!

Poor turnout? The fact anyone would bother wasting their hard-earned to support this current bunch of snivelling overpaid talentless cretins is amazing.

I'd rather poke my own eyes out than watch some of this lot play in a red shirt again.
  • I wore a Prisoners outfit up at Old Trafford.

Most of the squad should be in one now.

  • I remember someone had a blow up doll with them and he gave it to a copper through the railings in "no mans land" to go and hand it to a Manc on the other side. The copper did it as well. I still chuckle at the memory of this copper walking along with a blow up doll in front of how ever many thousands of people!
  • They were singing to us you will be back!
